Hello fellow members, I meant to do this a while ago but was either busy or just kept putting it off. Now i have found some time so here it is.

I recently ordered an M17x the 3D one with the 580m graphics card, and had to pay 150 for the slot load blu ray reader. So I thought let me see how much a slot load blu ray burner would be, and i found one for 120 plus 11 for shipping for a total of 131 compared to dell's 150 upgrade for the reader only. The purpose of this thread is for those who want the bluray slot load burner for a cheap price, I am including a link to the website, and here it is:

Yeah I'd rather pay the $20 and have it covered under warranty anyway.

An external drive works as an option as well. They have dropped in price considerably over the past few years.

If you go slowly and carefully follow the instructions, nothing can go wrong.
Also, aftermarket drives come with warranty too if bought new

you are more then welcome to pay the extra 20, but you do not get the bluray burner just the reader. I personally had been looking for this exact model and everywhere i looked it was being sold for more then $200, which is why i opted for this. it comes with 1 year manufacture warranty from the date of purchase, seeing as panasonic had built this i am quite content with that 1 year.

if you go with the external its just one more thing you have to carry around and take care of. If its already in the laptop it is much more convenient.

everyone is entitled to their choices and may do as they please. the thing is I was looking for a slot load bluray burner, specifically this one, and finally when i found it for such a good price i brought it in an instant. I figured there may be others who wanted it so i posted the site for everyone.

Also it is not hard at all to remove the optical drive, just very time consuming, degree of difficultly is almost non-existent.

How often are you going to be lugging around a 6 LB tank? If you're in post secondary, then I take back this statement. ;)

To be honest I carry it around quite a bit in my alienware messenger bag, and is quite annoying because of the damn adapter, I would hate to have to carry around an external as well, especially since I could easily replace it with a burner for a cheaper price.
