Hello all, and thanks for contributing to this amazingly helpful forum. I can honestly say this is the best public forum I've come across on the internet. Hopefully the knowledgeable people here can help me with my question...

After my latest OS install, I moved my user folder off my Intel SSD and pointed it to the 500 GB HDD that came with the system. Since then, I've found my internet performance abysmal. While typing this post, there is a pause after typing, and suddenly 2 words show up. Pages take considerably longer to load than on a work laptop that is 5 years old (a Dell D620). Is this to be expected once the user folder is moved, or is this related to something else? I downloaded the IE9 beta hoping the hardware acceleration would overcome my performance issues, but that didn't help.

I did my OS install once the A09, VBIOS and 5870 driver updates became available, just FYI. Also, I'm a newbie poster, so here are my system specs:

    Alienware M17X-R2 | i7-720QM | 4GB 1333MHz | RGB LED | Crossfire 5870 | 160GB Intel X25-M + 500GB HDD | Intel 6300 Wi-Fi | 3 Years CC

This has to be related to the user folder move. I have an M17x r2 with the IE9 beta installed (I am typing on it right now) and while the regular HD is never going to be as fast as an SSD, my internet performance is very speedy compared to just about every other regular laptop I have owned (including weaker powered ones with SSD's).

I believe the user store for IE files is comprised of at least one (if not multiple) system files--it could be that when you moved your user folder it set off a chain reaction of windows crap that must be processed each time the program needs to write to that folder.

Thanks Hank. I tend to agree, especially given your IE performance. I know some apps won't run as effectively once the user folder is moved, but the slowness might be too much. I'm considering doing another OS install and leaving the user folder on the SSD.

I doesn't seem right to have this amazing gaming machine with very sub-par internet browsing capabilities.
