Since this morning, my pc is all of a sudden much slower than it was in the past. On certain games I was getting 100 fps, and now I'm getting less than 50, and 3D Mark Vantage is giving me ~10K, as opposed to the usual 14K. I uninstalled and reinstalled the 6970M driver, but nothing is happening.

ati powerplay maybe in the way?

DaneGRClose Notebook Virtuoso
Are you on High Performance on the Windows setting?(click on the battery icon in the tray) Also do you have your computer plugged into the power outlet?
-
I have the SapphireTRIXX program installed and was watching my clocks on it while playing Crysis today and it was only running at 400 MHZ. Everything was setup properly...Ultimately what fixed it was to unplug the power cable and replug. That got me back up to the right clocks.
Now, that 14000 in 3dmark vantage...is that with it overclocked?? -
Plugged in, and on high performance.
-
Unplugged and replugged multiple times. Also reinstalled drivers and rebooted multiple times. Same issue still.
-
Do you have a program that shows your clock speeds? If so, what is it saying while you run 3d stuff? If not, install one then let us know.
-
I installed a bunch of stuff today, so I'm going to restore the system to the state it was in yesterday night to see if everything will be fine.
-
Any updates?
-
Restored to how it was yesterday, and it's still slower, even though the problems only appeared today. Does this mean something happened to my video card?
-
Could be. I'd call a tech and see wassup. Otherwise, get a replacement/new gpu installed.
-
I'm already getting a replacement because my laptop is the same as your replacement with the media keys setting popping out, as well as the keyboard itself and shell of the laptop out of place and not tightly in. I just want to be able to use it as an alienware until then.
-
have you tried installing GPU-Z and keep a a report while you game? It should tell you what your clocks are.
-
I can do that. What would cause random lower clocks though and how would I go about remedying that problem?
-
How about trying a restore to factory?
-
Oh yes, powerplay is counter-intuitive on the R3. On desktop systems disabling powerplay locks the processor at the maximum clock, disabling it on the r3 locks the processor at 400mhz...its stupid.
I discovered this when I got fed up with powerplay locking my system at lower clocks after resuming from sleep. -
Alright, and how do I change this power play issue?
-
I downloaded GPU-Z. What clocks should I see when I'm playing games?
-
680 gpu 900 ram
If your problem is what I had, but stuck unlike mine was, you'll likely see 400/900.
Maybe install SapphireTrixx and try "overclocking" to the stock speeds of 680/900. -
Goto to CCC>Power>PowerPlay
If powerplay isn't enabled that is likely the source of your problems; re-enable it or if you really want to be sure click "Defaults". -
Thanks. I called Dell and they fixed it, but I'm going to reinstall the game that didn't work before, so this may be helpful.
-
i have the same problem and it started today and you guys helped fix it thank you
-
Wat did they do?
-
Apparently when I installed the drivers, it left some files. They used drivers sweeper to truly get rid of everything, reinstalled drivers, and then also installed some other program (I forget the name) to make sure speeds are maximum.
-
Can you tell me how you were getting the 14000 in 3dmark vantage? Did you run the default free test?
Slower 6970M
