Nope, it stays white at all times. I wish there was a way to disable it.

dell is getting cheaper and cheaper in the alienware builds. Most now use the led backlight to light up the alienhead. What ever happened to the days of having skullcap options (alien ridges) on the lid and cool paint colors like blue, green, silver, etc?

The death of Alienware as a boutique brand (courtesy of the acquisition by Dell) is what happened..

If you're spending more time looking at the light on the back of your laptop than actually, I dunno, playing games on your laptop... You're doing it wrong.

It is actually white at all times, no way to change it from the command center, I have seen some people modding it with a special type of paint in the Alien's eyes. :)

I actually like that the case in one solid color and the alienhead is white only. I personally think all the multiple colors of trim and edges make it look to much like a toy and not the beast of a computer that it is.

The only time I could see this being a problem for me is if someone across the room tells me it looks stupid as white...which I will promptly then ask him if he is jelly and go back to playing the newest games on my laptop....

The one thing to me that ended up being super cheap is above the keyboard around the alien head and the areas to the left and right the paint is flaking off after only about 1 month. Already looks pretty tacky.

This is a very interesting idea... however you better be sure you like the color before you do that!

I don't really care that much about it. You don't see the lid when your looking at the screen and all the back lighting other than the keyboard's is just cosmetic anyway.

Oh wow that's stupid. I thought it was just with the M11'x because they were cheaper and smaller. I had no idea the newer, even bigger and more expensive Alienwares went to a normal white light. Yuck.

    I miss my m15x.

It's a good thing I bought mine m17x-r2 before being discontinued! Man! I love the RGB, 1920x1200, Anodized Aluminum, and the upgradability on this beast is epic. 7970 crossfire?....DONE! :D

The alien head is probably lit by the LCD back light and not its own LED, notice many brands with back of LCD logos are only white and never any other color.

the alienhead is lit by a seperate led-board.
if not (aka "turns off when you close the lid"), call dell and tell them they forgot to install it...

Not by much. But still, that's not a problem for a lot of people.

That's not normal; mine is pristine after a year of very active use. That's why they created warranties. Call Dell, tell them about the problem (a picture helps) and get them to send a tech to replace the Center Control Cover or to send you one to replace yourself. It's not at all difficult.
