I was out of town. Alienware sent a tech to my house to replace the palm/rest power button because my power button was stuck down. Wife txt me said he fixed it and left. I got home lastnight pulled the 17 out of my case.

Look what he did, apparently put long screws where some short ones go. And to top it off. The warranty was being extended. So the service tag dept. Transferred my warranty back to the original purchaser. So now thy won't send more parts till the warranty is transferred back. So another week of waiting for the warranty to be transferred back to me.

Wow... Such disrespect to property. That guy really forced those screws through... Not only did he do it once, but multiple times? He should be fired. How did he even qualify to be a technician? LOL

This is exactly why I never let anyone else work on my computers. The last time Alienware dispatched a technician to my home, I took apart the system and just had him bring the part to me to replace it myself. Funny thing is, he brought the wrong part. I called Alienware and just had them send me the part directly...

Did you open up the system to see if anything else was damaged?

I’m not surprised seeing as I had a tech come to my home twice and he broke my notebook both times. So, not only did he waste like like 10 to 12 (both visits added together) hours of my time/life but I had to wait on the depot to correct what he broke. I wonder how easy it is to become a DELL technician seeing as he could not even put my notebook back together without me telling him where the hard drive went. Well, even the depot is not perfect either because they sent me my (Replacement) notebook back with a few extra defects that were not there before. But now I am getting a replacement for the replacement and I am going to pray this has no defects so they do not send the same tech to destroy that notebook as well. After a tech breaks a notebook three times should it not be on him to buy the replacement? :D

Great post but not easy to "like" it since this takes a complete idiot to do this kinda damage.
The screw stops, but its nothing that some extra force dont fix. :)

That is appalling! I imagine the guy flipping it over to test and thinking 'I need to get out of here!'.

Dell messing you around with the warranty is not good either. They should simply pass the call back and continue the original service request, whatever the current warranty status, they sent an engineer and he screwed up badly.

I do wonder if they are looking to replace the whole unit? That would require all the warranty to be correctly registered.

Unfortunately I see this on-site stuff being messed up by the local contractor often. Curiously, mostly in the US but since it's the biggest market maybe just a roll-of-the-dice thing?

My on-site guy is very good and knows his way around the M17x. First time I stood over him watching everything. After I just leave him to get on with it :D

    Good luck.

hopefully no one tried to close the lid. i dont get why you have to wait for the warranty to be transfered. they screwed up and they should fix it regardless if its in warranty or not. if you push hard enough, you might be able to get a new system.

btw off topic. i live about 1 hr away from spartanburg :)

Damn that sucks! My 6990M broke and they wanted to send a technician too, luckily the card was out of stock and he didn't show up, without letting me know. I took that chance to force them to send me the card so I could install it myself (installed 7970M in the end). Sending just the card is apparently against the rules. I'm not going to let any dell technician touch my laptop but if they absolutely have to I'm going to be right next to it watching every move.

So sorry about your laptop :(

Wow....just .... wow....I can't even imagine the sheer incompetence that went into this repair job. This guy should be fired plain and simple, this shows nothing but complete carelessness and a lack of respect for his job IMO. And as everyone stated Alienware should be fixing this NOW not when they un- their mistake. Their is no way in hell this guy didn't notice what he did and just left thinking everything was fine.

If I were Alienware I would be giving you a new system because of this , and some upgrades to try and hopefully make it up to you. This is unfortunately why I have decided to just do all my own repairs from now on, the tech can come and watch if he wants but they are not touching my laptop ever again.

Nice how he checked the unit, probably saw the damage and closed it up and left without caring.

My wife didn't know to check :/ I was out of town till Friday afternoon. I am hoping the warranty transfer goes through by monday afternoon it Tuesday and I can get this fixed. I will maybe call back tomorrow anyway. There is no reason they should send parts again, it is under warranty with accidental damage care till almost 2016.... Hell I just took it out of the box brand new never opened the first of feb... The power button was stuck down out of the box. That's what started the whole palm rest replacement. They first sent a aw18 palm rest, then a 17 which was just drilled through.... Ugh... Come on AW fix me :/

Yeah, enough is enough. I would hope they are going to send you a new one ASAP. Definitely call but I reckon one of the dell reps might pick this up tomorrow and investigate further as well ;)

The wife shouldn't have been expected to know the dell technician was an incompetent fool, so no blame (IMO) there!
