Oh my...just popped open the box and this thing is beautiful. The weight isn't isn't near what I thought it would be. The build quality is great. BEAST is the perfect description.

Wow! I haven't seen the AW 17 configured with the AMD RADEON R9 M290X. I wonder how the performance is like compared to the GTX 780M.

I did use the website and it worked, however my situation is a little different. My A17 was ordered as my work laptop by the company I work for so that may have been why it shipped so quickly.

I'm excited about trying it out. I'm about to pop in a 1 TB SSD drive. I've read/heard that performance is very similar, guess we shall find out!

Thanks! Alienrespawn was a big fat fail so I'm having to clean install Windows. It has to do with 8.1. When I would try and open it it would fail and say corrupted recovery partition.

Quick Google search led me to these forums (+1 for that) and I tried to remove and reinstall the newer version but it would fail at creating the recovery partition.

I wasn't going to fight it anymore so clean install it is! I am going to attempt to reinstall Alienrespawn when I get all my drivers loaded.

Thanks J! As soon as I get these girlies in bed, (have 2 daughters) I'm going to get back to setting everything up. The Complete install on my SSD went great. I just have a few drivers left and then I can really start having fun with this beast.

Thanks everyone, I'll check out the SSD Optimization guide! I didn't get to do much last night because we had a crazy bad storm roll through that pretty much trashed my entire neighborhood. It smashed our A/C compressor...grrrr...

I feel I should start another thread with some of the things I'm finding out. So I've finally finished my clean install of Windows 8.1 on my Samsung EVO 840 1 TB SSD, got all my drivers updated to the latest, followed the optimization guide and made changes as necessary and now I'm re-installing Alienrespawn.

Before, on the 500 Gig OEM Hybrid drive, Alienrespawn would fail to find a recovery drive. I attempted to uninstall/reinstall and it would fail to finish the "prepare" phase. Well, with the clean install Alienrespawn seems to be working. As soon as it is finished installing and preparing, I'm going to make a recovery using it. Hopefully it'll work this time!

I also installed the latest notebook catalyst drivers from AMD, version 14.4, and it shows in the Device Manager, as well as in the Catalyst Control Center, as the AMD Radeon HD8970M, which I expected. I was worried about it showing my full 4 Gigs of VRAM, but it does show to have 4 Gigs.

Can't wait to start actually firing up some big boy games on this thing and seeing how she runs!

And avands, this isn't a light laptop by any means...it's almost 10 lbs. If you were to get a backpack, which I would suggest, it would make it easy to carry around. With this weight, you get a well made machine that is built like a tank, so the weight doesn't bother me one bit, plus last night I was carrying it around with one arm without problems. The screen is a great matte, 1080p Full HD screen...Invest in Full HD not faux HD. The fans aren't even audible during idle. It's a great machine!

Tnx very much for your answer. Well here where I live (iran) there arent many ailenware.so I should buy one at a hefty price.16 gig 770m 128ssd 1 terabite 750 gigi hard drive at 3000 $ so I should be cautious.so my serious consern is the build quality. How is The rubberized plastic? I saw in a thread that it may come off after a little while.

The rubberized plastic seems very well made. Feels durable and doesn't make me think it will come off, but that remains to be seen. I would start another thread so more folks who have had their A17 longer than I have can help you out. But for me, this is easily the best build quality of any laptop I have owned.
