Hey guys, so i just sold my r3 to some kid on craigslist a few days ago and today i get a call that the conputer is broke... I know it was fine when i was selling it so in no way will i take it back and give back the money but i do feel for him and want to help out.

So the computer should still have about 9months of warranty left and the person hardly speaks english, from what i understand he spoke to dell and they said they cant help him because he is not the owner of the service tag...

So my question is, when i call tomorrow will they transfer ownership and warranty to the other person? If not is there anything i can do? Ornperhaps there is something specific i have to say or perhaps do online? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It's my understanding that you can do it online.

I would ask the Alienware sales & service associate that frequent the forum. There has to be some sort of way to transfer the warranty from your name to theirs.

Start here: Ownership-Tag Transfer | Dell. When I purchased a M15x from another member, it took two days for the transfer to occur on Dell's records so that I was shown as the warranty owner. Easy process.

Oops: I see that Wankel already provided the link.

I bought my R3 at Hidevolution (USA) and shipped it to Spain.
When my HDD were broken, I had a lot of problems with Dell to fix it.

They (Dell) said me that my PC (service tag and express service code) doesn't exist in their database.

After several weeks of calls and mails I put a complaint at the Dell's Customer Service. They finally repaired my HDD.

Now, at the Dell's webpage, if I put my Service Tag it says "no warranty associated on this system". I am very affraid because I bought a warranty expansion of 3 years in the moment I bought the R3 at Hidevolution.... and my keyboard is getting broken

All I want to say with this is that you have to put a lot of care making the warranty transfer, and save/print all mails concerning to this.

You probably bought a refurbished system with no warranty. Some places do sell Dell systems that are not covered by Dell's warranty. If you bought a system and plan to ship it to another Country, that warranty can't be transferred from one Country to another. The only purchasing program that I know of that does not apply to these rules is AEFES.

    It wasn't refurbished.
It was shiped with the Alienware's original box, with the Dell's seal and his configuration was made by me (cpu, graphics card, wifi,...).

I asked to Hidevolution for the original bill (Dell asked for it for the HDD replacement) and Hidevolution sent it to me.
The original bill has the Dell's seal and the P/N parts number on the description.

Correct, which means that the warranty is non-transferrable from HIDevolution to you unless they start a warranty transfer process. As I said, some warranties cannot be transferred from one Country to another. This is why you required escalation to get something done.

Something like that was done from Hidevolution some weeks after the sending.

In fact (that's a large history) at the begining my R3 appeared in the Dell's Warranty Information Webpage that it was to U.K. (I'm in Spain).

After putting the complaint in the Dell's Customer Service, it now says "France" (where I think it is the Dell's headquarters in Europe)
