I am the owner of a AW MX17x and have the following strange problem:

It seems the keys "D" and "1" (on numerical pad) are not working. When i touch them (hard, soft, sideways...anywhichway) nothing happens, not in notepad, not in a webform, not in an email address....I need to use the ASCII code ALT+068 to get a "D".

I first thought it was a hardware problem (bad contact of the keys) but then i tried to register my AlienWare laptop and MAGIC: on the Alienware ARENA webform I could enter the D and the 1 ? How is that possible? It seems to be a software issue then.

Should I update my keyboard driver? Or do something else? Does anybody have a clue why these keys don't function EXCEPT on the Alienware subscription form?

    Thanks in advance!

Is it always the same applications or forms where they keys do or do not work, or is this also a bit random?

I have only managed to make those two keys work in the Alienware subscription form, not in any other application. So definitely something very weird.

Try uninstalling OSD, i've heard sometimes that causes issues. Might be worth a shot.

What keyboard language are you using? Which local spec is your laptop? Maybe your keyboard is setup wrong in the region?

Have you tried typing anything outside of Windows? (such as the BIOS)

If it's a software issue all the keys will work while typing outside of windows.

I had this problem as well. The keys that didn't work seemed to work only during very specific conditions. What was wrong for me was the reseating the ribbon cables for the keyboard that attach to the motherboard. Since I did that my keyboard has been flawless. Hopefully that is the easy fix you need :)

Eliteone could you please send me a PM I could really use help on reseating the ribbon cables as I believe that is my problem.

For me on occasion the W, F, J, keys are extremely difficult to get to work. I have to press on them super hard to get a response. After a restart and taking of the keys and blowing and banging the laptop a little from the top and sides I eventually get them to work. This happens pretty rarely but it's always the same keys (W is very important as we all probably know :p) so it would be nice to get a fix.

I'm sending you a PM maybe you could give me some advice :)

My AW M17x R2 keyboard in not working. The CAPs and SCROOL LOCK light blinks very rapidly. When you press:
    "W" displays "A"
    "A" displays nothing
    "D" displays "2"
    "S" displays "-"
On the keypad: "2" displays "D"
All other keys on the keyboard work fine. Does anyone know how to fix this. I bought another keyboard thinking that I have a defective keyboard and I get the same problems. Any segestions or know of any links where I can fix this problem???????

Did you try to uninstall OSD? I that doesn't work you can try the keyboard in another enviroment (BIOS,ubuntu live cd)..
