    Hey guys,
I will buy a Alienware 17 very soon, but before I do that I have some questions:

    1) Since the launch of the new Nvidia GPUs will be in 1-2 months I don't wanna buy an "old" 880m. Does anyone know how fast Dell/Alienware usually upgrade their Notebooks?

    2) On the german Homepage you can only choose between three base configurations of the notebook. My problem is that I wanna put in a 512gb ssd for Windows and games, so I will just buy the 1gb hdd from the store. Now my question is can I put in the sdd without opening the whole Notebook? I've read that I have to remove the whole keyboard to do that... Also is there any way how I can talk with them so that they out in a BluRay Reader instat of the DVD Reader?

    Thanks for anwsers and help!

Being in Europe, you will see the new hardware within the next month or so.

Yes, you can install an SSD or HDD without a tedious tear-down. The ports are just under the back cover. And no, you cannot speak to them and customize configurations.

Do you know which BluRay Burner/Player fit into the AW 17 and can I upgrade it without much work/loosing my warranty?

No problem. You should definitely wait, though. Maxwell is going to be very powerful compared to the current Kepler GPU's (up to 50% faster).

Installing the SSD is a breeze once you work out how to remove the rear cover and once it is in and Windows is installed on it then it is just a case of changing the boot order in BIOS to boot from the SSD. If space on your data drive is not an issue then you can leave the Windows installation on your 1TB drive as a backup in case your SSD has a terminal failure.

I will install Windows on the SSD and check if everything is running like it should and after that I will clone the old installation on a portable drive as backup.
