    Hi everyone

I have an Alienware M17x R4 with Creative Soundblaster Recon 3Di sound card. It's maximum output is upto 5.1. I really want to buy the Razer Tiamat 7.1, but it needs a dedicated sound card for it's true performance.

My question is: Will there be any actual difference if I plug in the Tiamat in my present 5.1 configuration? Also, if it really needs a sound card of 7.1 capability, what are my options to upgrade my hardware?

    Thanks

You could just buy a usb external sound card and be squared away as far as I know.

It would be ok but a dedicated USB headset would be better.

I use a recon 3d external sound card with the omega headset which is very nice, wireless headphones with no sound lag.

This is the best option considering what you require.
