So I was on Skype a few days ago. My headphones are ALWAYS plugged in (to the left headphone port). I'm watching a movie right and I turn on skype. As soon as the skype opening sound starts, the sound kicks off the headphones and onto the speakers for a split 2/3 seconds, then gets back to the headphones. Ok sure no problem.
Then I make a skype video call to a mate. All good, can hear everything through the headphones find and dandy. Then I open a youtube link and it becomes weird. I'm hearing him perfectly through the headphones, but at THE SAME TIME, the youtube video is playing through the speakers while the headphones are plugged in. This tripped me out.. and was problem one. (although I can see this being useful.. it's annoying).
Then we get to Gtalk (this only happens to Gtalk, not msn). When I'm watching a video, or not (it doesn't matter), the popup sound of the chat takes over and ignores the headphone and plays through the computer speakers (not external). It's annoying because everytime a person talks to me.. I lose the movie sound for a few seconds and have to pause talk, or just quit.
Anyone else having these problems or have a fix? (Hope i've explained it well enough)

Have you tried messing up with the windows sound control panel? They have some settings in there to set default speakers and also some settings for plug-in detection.
The other thing to check is if it can be a hardware problem, like the headphones cable for instance, cuz if it's causing interference your laptop might be assuming you are disconnecting / reconnecting the cable.
Other than that I can only suggest you remove any traces of your sound drivers and install again.
Hope it helps. -
Yea I have tried a few different things with the sound control panel but to no avail.. I got to a stage where after I finished a skype convo.. the sound fkd up and just started recording ME and playing the sounds back to me.. so sort of like an echo with a 1 second delay. Trippy because I thought the other person hadn't hung up yet.
Headphone cables are find.. I tried a different pair of headphones just to check, but I take good care of these BOSE ones just to make sure.
I suppose I could do with a sound driver re-install.. but I'd like to see all options before. Thanks for your ideas mate. -
I had this problem once. i fixed it by going into options in skype, and then change the sound settings to Speakers/headphones or something like that.
hope it works
