last night i hooked up my M17x R1 to my tv with the hdmi cord like i have several times before. sometiems i have issues and i think something like this happened to me before. anyways it messed me up this morning with sound and video. i closed my laptop last night, to put it to sleep still plugged in, but i noticed today my keyboard and mouse still had their lights on (normally turn off) so i opened it up and the screen was messed up. big black bars on the sides. i think i fixed that (tired all sorts of things including system restore) but the sound still does not come out of the speakers. if i plug my headset in, the sound works. the control pannel says that it is getting sound. i can't figure it out. need help.

I believe I had the same problem, the way I fixed it was to go into control panel and then go to IDT control panel, then look for HDMI(I think its the tab on the left) and uncheck it, "OK" out of everything. Sound should be back.

i found that, but there is only one thing, "set as default device" which wasn't checked anyways. i checked it, then set speakers back to default. didn't work. :( guess i'll have to reload os this weekend when i get home. that and 90 gigs of steam games... :(

Try reinstalling or changing display driver.

Yikes, I always keep my laptop plugged into my TV with HDMI. Although when I close my lid, I have it power off, instead of sleep. Never sleep! Sleep bad!

Were you using the latest Bios? AO4?

depends... when did it come out? i re installed 7 around may when school got out, and had everything up to date then, i think. why is sleep bad? is it jsut becasue of the hdmi or is it always bad. i like opening it up and it logging me in after 1.25 seconds (45% of statistics are made up on the spot).
