    Alienware m17x r3.

Ok, so it just started an hour ago. Every video, game, or music I play has annoying crackling noises through the laptop speakers AND my external speakers. What do I do?

Does the crackling get better/worse with volume changes? Have you modified any hardware recently? The crackling can be cause by both hardware and software. The drivers may help.

Yep, we need more info. in my case a change in hardware like a HDD replacement or the wrong mouse can cause that. having even a cell phone around can cause buzzing in speakers. You may also have to inspect the wireing inside the laptop (when you have run out of other options)

I had this issue with my HP DV8T. After trying a few different driver versions and a new install of windows turns out it was the power saving feature turning off and on the speakers. I disabled the power saving in IDT audio all the cracks and pops went away.

wingman_214 is correct... here is a quote from an M18x thread... Re: 8x audio popping noise ...this should apply to your systems as well.
