I had a talk with two so called “agents”, apparently bored to death …

Well, we all have hear about their lack of reliability and also about disinformation politics of Dell, HP, Toshiba, etc. but even without any question on the subject from my side, at some point of the dialogue they say that, particularly on the M17, the number of orders has decreased significantly ( ) and then, the two of them (what seems at least strange to me) suggested that now it’s a good momentum to make rush orders on the M17x and get some add ins or alike for free…

Then (again, without a specific question from me) they remark that soon, before Christmas, Dell is going to announce the next version of an M17 with some eye-catching and worthwhile surprises and that then prices may go up significantly with the new model… I ask what will be those “eye-catching and worthwhile surprises”, but then he hesitate and after a while answered, “I may have gone too far, it’s prohibited to talk about”.

I’m not an expert in marketing or alike, but I would like to hear the thoughts of some NB chiefs ‘illuminators’ like Joker, BatBoy, MFractal, Erawneila, JoeBarChuck, WaR, UncleWebb, Lozz… and anyone that the subject interest her/him. :D
    Thanks!

They were bored. What more is there?

As it is.. Around December would be the time any upgrade would be expected.

Sandy Bridge is due out in 2011 along with the new mobile GPU's. So it's obvious there will be a new M17x model. Whether it's a significant leap over the current R2 remains to be seen. There's going to be pros and cons with the new one vs the one we have now.

    Just in case: Bump...
    Thanks Joker!
But they where talking about December...
Any one have some inside/insight info or ideas on what can be expected regarding those “eye-catching and worthwhile surprises”?

Nobody outside Dell will really know the specifics and anyone that does is most likely bound by an NDA. But looking at tech trends is pretty easy to predict what will change in the M17x. Whether they redesign the look of it is the big question. I think they will definitely add in a lid option that looks like the M11x-R2 and they may change the build materials (from aluminum chasis to magnesium with aluminum panels). If they switch from 16:10 to 16:9 then we'll probably not see another RGB LED display. They'll likely improve on the cooling to accommodate higher TDP GPU's and add in a bigger power supply (300-350W is my guess). USB 3.0 ports and maybe a few other goodies.

Why do we have so many speculatory threads at this point? We're beating the horse to death here, people.

People love speculation, and with the nature of technology it's bound to happen each refresh. Not that it's productive, but it happens...

Maybe people need speculations same as they need hypothesis before they develop any theory?.
Even All Mighty God seems to have some speculations before He actually do ('create') anything... even then, some succeed, some not so...
There is nothing wrong with thinking ahead or speculating on developments and preparing yourself to potentially possible scenarios. Joker is a good sample of people that think, speculate on possibilities and then prepare himself to act... I must say, I have learn quite a lot from this guy and others in this unique NBR. ( I like to think that I learned something, even from the 'speculations', because I was willing and wanted to)

Looks sweet! How reliable the info is anyone know?

    @ Joker: Why 16:9 = no RGB?
