I was trying to burn a bluray movie but didn't know what speed to put it at. My M1730 was 8x but I believe the drive on this computer is different.

    Thanks.

    xhero,

The burning rate of a DVD and a blu-ray are different. I had an M1730 and yes the max DVD rate for the drive was 8x for dvd-r and dvd+r. But a blu-ray drive spins much faster since it must burn more data. They generally are rated like 1x, 2x, 4x or faster. With a blu-ray, the slower you burn the safer it is since there is less chance of burning bad data. The safest speed to burn depends on the drive and laptop. I would buy a rewritable blu-ray and do some test burns. Doing it that way will give you some idea what speeds to use. I don't remember exactly, but I think that a 1x blu-ray speed is equal to a 4x dvd speed when comparing spindle speed and throughput. Good luck.

Not sure about CDSpeed, but if you have the newer Nero it does burn blu-ray and has some tools for testing burn speed. Not sure if they can be used on blu-ray. Have seen them mostly used on DVDs.
