I have signed up to this forum today in hope someone can help me.

I bought my M17X off my brother a few month back, the warranty was transferred into my name.

The laptop has CompleteCare 2Y NBD Accidental Damage.

I Have spilt Coffee on my laptop and its gone right through the keyboard and into the insides.

Can anyone guide me on what steps i need to take and what is likely to happen with the laptop i have, Will it be repaired or completely replaced?

Hope to get some responses this is my first Alienware and im all a bit lost with it

    Thanx

I would think with the accidental coverage you'll be taken care of if it takes a crap on you.

If it's on, leave it on, if it's off, leave it off..........do NOT move it, let it sit for several hours, if not a full day, and dry out on it's own. Once it's had time to dry, look on this website for any number of "how to disassemble" posts, take it apart and clean it using denatured alcohol and a soft cloth. Do not use q-tips or any cloth that will leave lint behind. Make sure it is completely dry before you turn it back on.

If it were me and I had your warranty I would just make the call and have them come take care of it if it's not working though.

If you have CC, you need to ship it to their depot for assessment/repair. If it is totaled, I believe they will contact you for a replacement. If they repair it...they repair it.

It was turned on when the coffee landed,

Am pretty sure i heard few loud pops and a blanked screen. Dont think the fans or anything worked once i got over the shock and isolated the supply.

I will get in touch with Dell then.

    Thanx

Chances are you'll get a refurb replacement. In a previous life I was responsible for over 300 dell laptops in the US, home based staff all with on-site and complete care. Spilled drinks were a commom problem. i know (from bitter personal experience, this is my first 'joe public' purchase!) that business customers get much better support but they (dell) would first try a clean, and then replace. If i told them it popped, smoked, whatever, a replacement was immediatly sent. Best one - 'I was working on my laptop with my baby on my lap, she vomited all over it!' Dell engineer arrived next day and cleaned it all out - lucky user, no further problem...

Oh dear, what have you DONE!!! Anyway, just kidding :D . The "CompleteCare 2Y NBD Accidental Damage" will definitely cover the spill, because last time I got Coke spill all over my keyboard though it is not turn on so I have it dry up and the next day after I contact Dell the day before they come to replace a new keyboard for me, at first I thought my M14x is done for good  , but because of the Accidental warranty I was saved. Plus you have 2 year of warranty so you dont have to worry much though, just call Dell when something (thing you cannot fix yourself) go wrong, then they'll help you to either fix on the call or send a technician to fix it.

Sorry to hear that Half_Rod, hope you get a replacement soon!

I'm always so paranoid about spilling coffee on my rig. There have been a few close calls with full glasses of water though... my heart has nearly stopped a few times! ;)
