Well long story short I somehow deleted my windows OS while trying to have a seperate Ubuntu OS. I was able to save all my files under "user" so I lost all program files and my basic alienware programs, but the big problem I'm facing right now is getting started.

    1) my windows installation seemed to be the genaric brand over all the extra stuff alienware sends you. Right now none of my funtion keys work, example " FN alienware FX" doesn't exist. I also dont have "Command Center". I was wondering if these are seperate programs outside of the normal Window OS which I which ill have to download from dell.com or if im just SOL.

    2) Internet Adaptor. Right now my computer isn't recognizing wireless internet sources. So i plugged in my ethernet cable and still, no dice. After that im stuck and I was wondering if I could fix this myself of I would have to contact dell.

All in all a day wasted in my life, but I can look back on this as an experience and a learning curve.

    I can help w/ #2.

You have to download the driver to enable the internet ethernet/wifi via the dell site. Just make sure you get the right one from the dell site.

The other stuff might also be driver related, because I know you need the Alienware OSD for the theme options...

But good luck, and I hope you can get it all back together.

Yeah just go to Dell.com and look under support ,then drivers and downloads then select your model and grab everything you might think you need for your model machine.

It will ask which model you are looking for drivers then which OS.

I assume you have access to another PC ? if so just dump then on a external drive/burn them to a disc etc and install them.

If you have your resource DVD that came with the machine there are drivers on that as well so maybe just install the ethernet driver and do all your downloading for the newest drivers on your Alienware from the site.

Ok I found my resource DVD it seems to have everything I need including Command Center and all the driver for my adaptor, webcam, graphics card, and much more. Ill be installing the command center and intenet adaptors. If i have similar problem ill check to see if I missed a driver.

Thank you guys for your great feedback +reputation

By the way, if you've updated the alienware command center DO NOT install the older version from the resource disk or it'll damage the control board.

I have been slowly downloading drivers to my computer and have run into a problem. Every time I turned off my computer my keyboard lights wouldn't turn off but the computer would be off. This would require me to hold down the power button for 5 or so second to turn them off. With that problem I also had an issue with my Microsoft windows starting up but after the little symbols flashing around nothing happened. I was able to boot in safe mode and after multiple restarts found that under run/msconfig that the "power" service was the problem. Any ideas why? I could always delete all dell drivers I have downloaded so far and start that over again until I find a problem, but does anyone else have a solution?
