    Hi all,

Every time I start the laptop it gives 8 beeps after fiddling around with it I can make it start, but if I move the lid in certain positions the screen backlight will turn off. If I shine a flashlight at it when I move the lid I can still see the picture when the backlight turns off.

Broken ribbon cable? M17xR3 doesnt have an inverter cable right?

edit: and now it doesnt start at all anymore. even if trying repeatedly. I will just call Alienware monday.

You can try reseating the LCD cable.

reseating the video cable is a bit much for a laptop of this value, don't you think? only laptop I owned that had a loose cable like that was a budget-priced compaq CQ62 from '09...

It can be a lose cable.. You never know.. Sometimes AW aren't that well put together by factory workers or if a tech was replacing the screen, the cable might not have been properly attached.. If the screen cable reseat is not working, a new screen is in order...
