    Hello everybody!

My m17x CPU fan has a problem.

A week ago a Dell technician came to replace my motherboard. Obviously, during the replacement, he replaced also the coincell battery, so all the bios settings were lost.

Now the problem is that the cpu fan is always on: the only way to stop it is to turn off my computer.

I think that's because the cpu fan settings are stored in the bios settings, but I can't find anything to edit this settings (I searched in Windows and in the bios menu).

Does anybody know the solution to my problem? =(

    Sorry for the bad english.

run HWmonitor and report your CPU temps

I just posted a reply in the other thread you posted(my bad)
What i said was that he probably forgot to add thermal paste to your CPU thus making your fans go insane due to the CPU heating up.
Also that you can't change FAN settings in your BIOS.

    My m17x is R2.

He replaced also the thermal paste, but in another day.

In the first, he replaced the motherboard, but he broke the left gpu fan.

In the second, he replaced the fan and the cpu thermal paste.

And I don't think that is because of temperatures: they are always around 35°C

I've also called the Dell support but they don't know how to solve my problem =(

    Here are temperatures:

I don't know why, but hwmonitor says that my cpu is an 820QM.
    My cpu is a 740QM.

Wait a sec..is it always on like only running but pretty silent(which is NORMAL) or always running like insane spinning?
Guess you have to call them again and make them fix it.

insane spinning. It's always on maximum speed.
They said me that this is not a real problem cause my computer works well.
My pc is almost new (bought in October).
I really hate dell and probably i won't buy anything more from them.

Call them back, tell them it's not normal and it should be fixed.
The fans should not spin like that all the time.

don't let the tech go if you didn't try the system with him there otherwise it's pointless. I'll say call again make them fix every issue you have that's why warrenty is for, don't get tricked this time check the system with him to make sure he actually fixed it not brake it. Curious what BIOS are you on?

I had a similar issue like yours as well.

CPUID does not show all the temps of your system.

All the fans were running at 50% all the time. They did a remote test, logged into my system, tried all kind of driver change etc. etc., finally they given up because they could not find the problem.

I am not sure what kind of hardware monitor software I used (I know is freeware) and after installing it and starting the software, I noticed that one item in the system is always at 65-70 degrees when others stay in the range of 40-45. So, that was the reason the fans run so fast, because that area on the board could not be cooled down for some reason (all the fans where functioning properly).

I called Dell again and again, finally I guy came and replaced the motherboard and finally my problem was finalized. I guess, they must have installed a default motherboard (my believe).

Like you have been advised earlier, call them again and insist to fix it, as the fans and everything else will start failing in time.

Hope you will solve your problem. Best of luck!

Amazing, I have an R1 and the tech just left today and I have the same problem after a motherboard swap. The integrated GPU is reading out at 60C in CPUID. Very odd as everything else seems fine. Guess I will have to call again. The tech I spoke to promised to run a full exchange if this fix failed -- should I replace it with an R2?
