Hey all,
I've searched here and I cant really find much info on this particular problem.
playing race driver : Grid last night, and all was well, nice high fps, never drops below 60...even with 8x msaa and @ max resolution 1920x1200.
I shut down computer, and switched it on today.
I loaded grid for another burn...and i was getting hopeless framerates..30fps. so i checked clock speeds on cards, etc
and it had reset to 200/250 (a problem I had originally with the laptop, but got around it using amdgpuclock tool, as it appeared to be a driver issue. I modified rivatuner to apply my clock speeds on bootup, and all had been well for months)
Thats not the only problem... after checking the clock speeds, I decided to shut down and reboot....I was told there were errors on the disk, and then chkdsk wouldnt run....after much messing around managed to fix that by applying the chkdsk IR hotfix from microsoft. all seemed good.
rebooted, and game was still crap. I loaded msi afterburner and discovered that GPU1 was doing all the work, and GPU2 was idle.
I thought "maybe the crossfire bridge cable is not connected properly", so I checked that and it was fine.
I dont think that the inactive card is necessarily faulty, as it responds to clock speed adjustments via rivatuner.
To cut a long story short, no amount of tweaking, reinstalling ( 10.4, 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8 catalysts) allows the other card to do any work.
I know that some games dont support crossfire, etc, but forcing CATAI to advanced, forces AFR as far as i'm aware, and have seen unsupported games utilise both cards whilst advanced CATAI is selected.
so my question is this...do you think one of my cards is f@$#ed? or could it still be a software issue?
And if i need to contact dell support to rectify this, do i need to do a factory reset on it before they assess it? as they might say my overclocking, etc has damaged stuff (which is complete bull, since i have relatively conservative overclocks (600/1000) and my temps are monitored at all times.
Sorry for the essay peoples. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I love my m17x but at the moment i'm tearing my hair out with this.
regards, Matt

For anyone that cares, someone used my laptop and had been pressing random buttons or something...
stealth mode...what a stupid button that is. i never used it before so was unsure of exactly what it did to the computer (as in, exactly what effect it has)
Now I am fully aware of it.
cheers,

stealth mode is usefull for when you are on the move but what is dumb about it is that the laptop will never tell you that it is in stealth mode
unless you use a 3rd party software
Strange crossfire problem
