Hi,
i have got something strange on my M17X R2. For those who don't know well this laptop , there is no igpu , just two mxm slot nothing else so no problem with PEG and stuff like that.
Mine have an 7970m dell version, was working great till now. Sometime when i boot it up or when it go back from sleep the screen go black with red stripe , sometime green and blue too. I was thinking of defective gpu , so repaste -> nothing.
It was appening sometime but i had just to reebot and that was good , no fps drop or artefact in game ... Uningine Valley benchmark was good ect .
Today it was impossible to boot correctly, the computer was booting windows but the screen was black with red sripe. I had unmount the gpu, reflow it with heatgun and that was good. Was suspecting some bad memory chip.
But the problem went back, so i have just tryed to plug in the tv screen to see if it was the gpu or mobo or laptop screen. At the same moment i was pluging the hdmi cable the screen went back on laptop , no problem run like hell ect ... Tryed to rebbot without the tv pluged in , boot with no probelm ...
So i thinks that's not the gpu but the mxm slot who has some misscontact, my card do not stay at 45 ° when i am mounting it, it go flat directly, maybe with the heatsink its too heavy to stay in the air.
What do you think about it ? I have made a lot of strees test, bench and game ( skyrim / bf4 ) and there was no artefact , no fps drop or anything , nothing more than usual with the 720qm i mean ...

Have you checked the internal screen cable?

So i have just reseat the screen cable , same problem, after that i have clean the mxm contact on the 7970m pcb with 90° alcool , problem solved. I have boot 6 time to be sure and that work. The contact weren't looking dirty but who know ...

Grease or fluff could have done it. The mxm slot does have the video outputs going out on it.

Yep maybe my finger grease or something like this.
