    Hey All,

Maybe a stupid question but is there a way or has someone thought of a way to turn the M17 on without having to open the lid. I generally use this laptop with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. And would like to never to have to open the lid.

I was thinking of trying to make something to do it, but will have to wait until Mid November to begin building. If there is no way easily to turn it on I was going to use something similar to what I remember as a kid like a toy that is air powered so on one side it is like a chamber which you push/pinch and it then makes the other side expand slightly..enough to hit the power button...

Exactly what I was thinking. Might work if the option is there.

If you wanted to leave it sleeping most of the time. (Just an idea) You could go to device manager and open properties for keyboard and mouse and go to power management, then make sure "allow this device to wake computer" is checked. That way you can either hit a key or click to wake your computer up.

I have tried the USB wake before but it does nothing.

Don't want to do the sleep thingy, want to be able to completely shut down and start again, never having to open that lid :) I guess no one has come up with any other solutions...Too-bad..Maybe future AW's will incorporate power buttons that are accessible without having to pen the lid (Like Vaio's)

I think laptops don't start when the lid is closed...

Because it's going to assume it's not being used (screen = off...)

The one exception is a Dell Latitude laptop I used with an external screen and a docking station :p

Your best bet is to change the "Choose what closing lid does" to Nothing so that when you close the lid the laptop will stay awake.

I already have that enabled, but I like to completely shut down my computer sometimes.

I will try and invent something, and report back...I know what I am looking for it is something from my childhood like these toy frogs or lizards that when you pushed/pinched a ball like thing the tongue would pop out, trying to find on the internet something long enough or something I can make that will do that.

Will it over heat with the lid closed? Or will it run perfectly fine since the vents are in the back? Also, why close the lid? I'd rather use the 17 inch RGB than any 22 / 24 :)

Yea if it does negatively affect cooling that would be bad long term.

However, I too would like to close my lid, mainly to keep both the screen and keyboard from getting dusty. I may go a month without moving it then the next few weeks I may pack it up every day. I usually use an external keyboard/mouse/speakers/display when I'm home. I'll have to see if this RGB display breaks me of using a larger normal LCD or not :)

Since most gaming laptops do not have docking stations where you can turn it on/off closed, I have learned to just partially close the lid so at least it deosn't get too dusty.

Especially when that 17" RGB is 16:10 ;)
