    Hello guys,

I was wondering if anyone could help me determening what my problem is:

I play COD4 and for some reason the game is not running smooth. I played a match with my teammates last night and they say im "lagging" all over the place.

Although if i look at my ping : 39. I noticed how I sometimes seem to stutter, but it doesn't seem to be lagg, more of a FPS issue because my fps runs at 200 steady, and every 4-5 seconds i get a drop to 80-90 which i think causes the "stutter" on the screen.

I did a speedtest and my connection seems fine? (18Mbs down, 1.14Mbps up, ping 29)

I also noticed this stuttering in The Witcher. Same deal, every x steps i run, i get a small hickup...

But if it is some sort of FPS issue, how come my everyone keeps complaining they see me lagging. I could use some help here :(

    My specs: core i7 720qm , 5870CF, intel wireless 6300

    Update:
I do seem to get laggspikes (internet wise) from time to time, i noticed some yellow bars in the lagometer of cod 4 aswell when trying to ping google
(saw this tutorial online to use ping -t google.com to see if u have laggspikes?) all normal in the range of 40 , and every minute or so it jumps to range 200

Also noticed that the FPS stutter seems to lessen when I play, it seems its much worse in first 2 minuts of gaming?

Does this happen in offline games?

Well the FPS stuttering happens in The Witcher (an offline game). I first noticed the problem in the witcher but blamed it on bad coding or sumthin, but then i also got the problem on cod so now im kinda puzzled.

On further notice i should say that it seems that when i Play COD4 , when ever i have a lagg spike, the FPS will drop aswell... i see the spike in ping on the lagometer, and see my fps drop with about 120-150 to around 60 for a second, and then back up to 200...

Same goes for The Witcher, only that the problem istn't as persistent as on COD.. it happens but not as regularly or often. but my screen freezes for a split second and then moves on again...

I have no idea what the problem might be
I tried updating to latest drivers for chipset, 5870's and intel wireless 6300

But sumthin tells me the problem is not perse in one of these areas? I found thread on the net about Windows 7 64 bit troubles with lagg aswell...

    Any help is welcome!

Try turning off Crossfire, I did that on my 4870CF machine and COD4 runs smooth as glass with just the one card enabled. The fans run a lot harder but that doesn't bother me.

I already tried that. Run with crossfire , without crossfire doesn't seem to help.
I already tried that core parking registry fix aswell, that doesnt help aswell...

Still the same , major drops in fps and spikes in ping in the beginning first minuts of a round. After that it lessens but becomes quite constant, every 30 seconds or so i get a drop in fps and a spike in ping

If any mods read this, this thread can be closed and burried...

I figured out the problem: it Punkbuster, nothing to do with drivers or anythin..

Thank you anyways for your help guys,!

This sounds a bit like the issue I'm having with some games, discussed in this thread, but you say you also get FPS drops while I don't seem to.

I haven't tried playing COD4 or The Witcher, so I don't know if my computer would have the same issues, but I do know that it runs COD:MW2 fine (I played it the weekend it was free on Steam).

It seems to be worse for online games, and sometimes when I play Source games I lag all over the place which is visible even on my screen, not just to the other players, despite having a low ping and a fairly good internet connection.

So far I haven't found a good all-around solution, except that there was a .ini change for Fallout 3 and updating GTA IV with latest patches helped a bit for those games, but the issue seems to be returning in other games as well now... So maybe it's just something with those games?

@swg1251 : I have not really an idea what seems to be the cullprit. You say its worse for online games? If you don't have fps drops what do you experience in offline games?

for COD4 it happened to be Punkbuster that does some checks in the beginning of the map wich accounts for the serious fps drops / lagg. Its odd though : my old Area m15x didn't have any problem with the game, no fps drops no ping spikes, both connected to the same router, so it can't be the router. So eighter the Intel Wireless 6300 or its something video driver related? I thought it might be core parking but I think that's ruled out. I tried to disable core parking and i still get the periodic spikes.

Well what I meant was that it's not fps drops necessarily, more like the game is skipping frames or something. And yes, it does seem to be worse when playing online, in the games that it happens with. Fraps shows a high fps at all times, but the gameplay doesn't look smooth at all - very 'stuttery'.

Are you still having the problem in other games? I assume Witcher doesn't us PB since it's single player...

i have stutter in the witcher aswell... but its not as much as in cod.

You FPS might be dropping if you are using fraps. I read somewhere about guys with the same problem we have , that the fps drop doesn't register in fraps , although im not to sure about it.

I did a fresh install of video drivers, wireless drivers, but no go still the same...

    Hi All,

I am having similar stuttering & long loading time issue with The Witcher (offline, setting all to Max). Turn off XFire doesn't help. It still lags. My configuration as per below. Too bad as this game is really nice despite of this issue.

Can anyone confirm as to by updating to Catalyst 10.7 will resolve this issue? If it's not working also, is there any workaround for this without sacrificing the quality (turn off/reduce AA, AF, resolution, etc)?

Thanks in advance and appreciate fyi guys.

Punkbuster is software that is supposed to prevent cheating in games. I haven't looked at how it works, but I'd imagine that it makes sure that the game's files are as they should be (not patched) and that there aren't any cheat/trainer apps loaded.

I've seen claims that running Punkbuster doesn't affect your system's performance, but it's got have some impact if it's performing checks.

Thanks fyi nzgeek. Does it mean that The Witcher have its own punkbuster in the first place? I've never used or installed this kind of software before but the lag is there when I'm playing this game. It's really bothering me. Do you know how to eliminate this issue or any working workaround available? As mentioned in my previous post, turning off XFire doesn't help.

Without have my own system (or the game) to replicate the issue, I can't help too much with the problem.

You could try a general search to see if the problem has affected other Witcher users on desktop systems. A search I did just now suggests turning off anti-aliasing in the Catalyst Control Center, which helped at least one person.

Another thin you could try is to install RadeonPro, which allows you to control your graphics settings at the driver level on a game-by-game basis. I would suggest trying the things mentioned in that thread to see if any help out with your problem.

Are you using a USB modem by chance?

What other things have you got connected to your USB ports?

Hi Ashtefere. Nope I'm not connecting USB modem when I play The Witcher. The only USB device connected to the port is my mouse, nothing else.
