    Hi guys,

I just overclocked my 6990m. Its all stock, no repaste and running at 800mhz-core,1000mghz-memory.

I did some furmark runs and it gets way over the 90C mark. I set an alarm at 98C and it did get to that temp pretty quick (maybe 3-5 mins).

I then decided to give Crysis 2 a go with the GPUZ log file and my temps arent exceeding 80C (GPU temp 3).

Is this ok? What is a decent temp to avoid frying your GPU? Does it lower the life time of you GFX card?

Thanks for your help everyone and merry Christmas! :D

You might want to invest in some quality paste and propping the laptop up on something. Maybe even a laptop cooler.

    Hi Zoolian,

Do you reckon its an easy thing to do? dont want to mess up anything! I think I read you dont actually need to pull out the GFX card but just take off the heatsinks or something?

I'm always taking my laptop to my little bro for a gaming session so I dont want to be carrying an extra laptop cooler!

    Thanks!

I've increased my 560m's core clock and shader values by 20% and the highest temp I've seen it is 62C (this is with IC7 paste and a notebook cooler). Man that card stays cool :D

that's way too hot bro...you 100% need to repaste and reseat the heatsink. Its very easy to do

Just as a reference, after 4 mins of Furmark, my temps hover at 67c and it stays there.

Yeah I think your right, I really should repaste... even without any OC I'm getting around 90C in furmark after a few mins.

Thats not right is it? Did they not paste it properly at the factory? I never got a thermal shutdown but still, that just deosnt sound right.. :(

6990's a pretty hot card. And Dell uses pretty cheap paste.

    Agree with slick.

    Dell paste stinks.

Super easy and safe to repaste both CPU and gpu yourself. I think mandrake did a picture step by step on this forum....search.

Buy a tube of mx-4 from amazon and don't look back. Drops gpu 10 degrees and CPU about 8 degrees from stock crap.

    Merry Christmas!
