Hello, the best way is to flash with ur own vbios, you have to change some settings in the vbios in order to stop the power throttle, share your vbios and i can help you changing that settings to stop the power throttle.

The 980M does not have as much OC range as say a 970M. That’s my own experience.

Mine peaks around 100 for very short time and stays at 80w when under load with 45c temp.

    Snow cooling? Why not :)

@Baqir Is it possible to implement your anti-throttling settings to svl vbios?

You basically cut the pwm wire and the fan will run at 100 speed there are different mods you, can do to put it on/off switch

Tommorow I will make same test with svl vbios. From previous test I think svl give best performance and lowest temperature. Your vbios behave like stock without pwr throttling, but today I observed droping frequency of memory during rdr2 sesion.

    Screenshot 2021-01-11 170259.jpg
Heres playing world of tanks, ultra settings@120Hz display.
    CPU/GPU @ 45c
I remember stock amd R9m290x was cooking at 90c years ago and theres much more graphics in the game now.
the bottom hwinfo graph is that of gpu power. As you can see its 80w flat mostly with few spikes to 100.
    I'd call that a 80w card?
    Is it throttling?

Baqir, I seem to remember we got the very same card.
I was just wandering what kind of behaviour is with vbios from your post #7

The green line in your screenshot shows the power throttling and i can see the voltage is locked at 1v which is not enough i guess.

I still working on it. For a few days every vbios working great without throttling, but today after I switched back to svl and try new nvidia drivers, throttling is back.

Summary: in my case every vbios (org, prema, svl, baqir) on different drivers throttle after cold start.
The only solution was hibernate or igfx bios trick. It helps every time until next cold start.
All vbioses dropped frequencies both on clock and memories, beside baqir's which dropped only on memories.
From all 4 vbioses I prefer svl version, it generate same temperature as all others and best performance. If someone can modify svl vbios to eliminate power throttle on clock and memories please let me know.

the voltage on slv is bit too low for me it's 1.0v where as in my bios it's 1.0370v you can probably use nvidia inspector to toggle that.

Voltage is no problem for me. Svl vbios is stable. Throttling is problem with all vbioses.
