    This is just a thought exercise for me. I don't have an immediate plan to do this as I don't have the liquid assets right now to make the purchase but will there be any issues with replacing the AMD 7970m with an nVidia 780m? I'm checking because they have different switchable graphics technologies and didn't know if that would cause an issue.

    The switchable graphics thing will maybe only cause an issue if you didn't remove all amd drivers, otherwise I think you are set to go. I have never seen anyone put a 780m in a m17xr4 other unexpected problems may arrise. I have heard of someone that did it but never actually saw a post of it.

    Was thinking myself of upgrading to 780m from 6990M. would it be worth it? especially because I want the m17xr5 when the 9series amd get here, somewhere early 2014.

    Hmm... I dunno. I'm actually wondering if I would lose my ability to disable switchable graphics and force it to only use the nVidia card. Currently I have an advantage with the AMD card because I can disable Enduro entirely and just keep the AMD card on all the time bypassing the integrated entirely.

    I have a 780m in my m17x right now, check the gaming forum on nbr here and u will see my results. With a software Overclock and no voltage tweaks I scored about p5800 in firestrike and p9100 gpu score in 3dmark11

    Yes the card works fine. However there are no drivers for this card so I had to settle for Modded ones that don't play real well in some games, for example crysis 3 crashes and metro has some flickering in areas. Once we get some official drivers and modified vbios this card will scream in my r4

    It always amuses me how new flagship cards come out without drivers :D
    Anyway, that's some sick scores there HaloGod. Very nice.

    That's awesome! By any chance do you play GTA IV, or EFLC? If so what fps / gpu utilization do you get? Sadly the 7970m and 680m only get 50% utilized.

    Might be worth noting that Halo went from a 680m to 780m, I don't believe he had a 7970m setup R4 from AW.

    Well this might be valid questions anyways regarding the switch...

    @HaloGod

    1) What bracket did you use for the install? The same one as the 680m?
    2) Does the system still have Optimus technology enabled?
    3) Can you turn that crap off with the 780m? (if it is enabled)

    1. I used the same heatsink and bracket from my 680m
    2. I believe optimus is still enabled.
    3. You can just set it in the nvidia control panel to always use dedicated graphics, so never had an issue with it

    Ahh... Ok. Good to know. I can safely put it on my future upgrades list then however I'll need official drivers first since I run Windows 8 x64. :p
