For the love of God, please, help me.
    I have a AMD Radeon HD 6990.

Right now I'm having problem with my laptop. Everytime I reboot my computer, I get weird lines similar to this : Monitor Lines - YouTube

So I have to switch back to my integrated graphics ... then back to my AMD Radeon HD 6990. It's really annoying ! I have to do this every single time ! I tried getting new drivers on Dell website (but they didn't release any new one) and on AMD none of them are compatible it seems. So yeah, nice stuff.

I have no idea what to do. My laptop is not even one year old and I already have problems with it. What can I do to fix this ?

Hey Mojo... welcome to NBR. Glad to have you in our Community.

Exactly what system do you have? Radeon 9900 is a typo. Did you mean 6990? If you have 7970M that could be an indication the GPU may be defective, which would not come as a great surprise to many. The AMD reference drivers are compatible, but if you use the AMD Catalyst validation tool that sometimes does not work because AMD does a terrible job of keeping their database current with hardware ID info. You need to download the driver directly from a link and not let the validation tool decide if there is a newer driver available for your system.

If it is a Dell/Alienware system that is less than a year old, get it fixed or replaced under warranty.

    Sorry I'm not an expert.

Well, go to support.dell.com and look up your service tag. If you have an account set up on their web site, that should give you the details about your system. Once you let me know what model your system is, I will move this to the correct sub-forum and see what kind of support we can provide for you. But, the best bet is definitely to get it rectified under your warranty.

    I have an Alienware M17X r3.
I didn't pay for an extended warranty so mine expired couple weeks ago.
But why can't you upgrade drivers on a laptop ? It wouldn't fix my problem ?
Or is there a way go from scratch and reinstall them ?

Right now, for example, I switched from my integrated one to my Radeon 6690 and it's working (after the 7th time, usually my computer freeze when I switch). I can play games.
But when I'm going to reboot, it's going to do the same thing, I'll get weird lines and I'll have to do the whole process again ...

I have to do that every single time I reboot.

So basically, how do I fix this ? Not shutting down my laptop ever again ? Kinda silly.

I moved your thread into the M17x sub-forum where it is more likely to be seen by M17x R3 owners.

Have you tried disabling graphics switching in the BIOS to see if the problem goes away? On the M17x R3, I believe you simply change Primary Display from SG to PEG, but you might need an unlocked BIOS to do that. Have a look in SlickDude80's thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-mobility-7970-m17x-r3-illustrated-guide.html for screen shots how to do that.

If you are attempting to use AMD's driver validation tool, that could be fooling you into thinking the reference drivers are not compatible. Are you getting to download a driver and it fails during installation, or simply getting an error message that tells you the driver is not compatible and does not take you to a place for downloading drivers?

Try downloading the driver directly from this link and see if it will install for you.
