Hello all, long-time lurker here to the Alienware section of your wonderful forums. They have been very helpful to me since I purchased my M17x R3 laptop. I had an Alienware Area-51m "766" laptop way back in the day that served me faithfully for over 6 years. When it came time to finally replace my aging desktop, I decided to go with an M17x R3... much more power than my desktop in a convenient, poratble package. ;) I was lucky enough to catch Alienware's 16GB-for-the-price-of-8GB sale too. Aside from some minor bumps along the way, I've been very happy.

Anyway, decided to come out of lurk mode to ask a question. I am having an issue whenver the laptop comes out of sleep and switches from battery to AC power. I get a small window in the center of the screen that says "System is currently in battery mode. Connect the supported AC adapter for optimal performance. Press any key to continue." Not a showstopper, but certainly annoying. Is there any way to disable that message? I've seen a few other people on these forums mention the problem but I didn't see where a solution was found? Apologies of course if I missed it...

    Thanks in advance! :)

Warrenty? Probably charger or motherboard related.

You should contact Dell and see about getting the adapter replaced. If it doesn't recognize the new adapter, then you'll need a new motherboard or a motherboard repair from them. I can't remember -- are the Dell laptops programmed to limit clock speeds or otherwise restrict performance to save on power if a genuine adapter isn't detected?

Thanks for the replies. As far as I know, the video card is automatically underclocked when running on battery. From what I've read, it's because the battery simply can't deliver the power necessary to run the GPU at full speed. I think it's the GPU generating that message. The system runs at full speed when connected to AC power; it's just that message is annoying and I was wondering if there was a way to disable it.

Still looking for an answer on this - any way to disable the message? Thank you!
