A few weeks back I had said, this was not possible and Batboy mentioned that it may not be true as we have not proven otherwise.
However I do agree with him now. If you use the Amd card in place of the Nvidia card in a 3D R3 you will gain one aspect and loose another.
Your Intel GPU will still be disabled irrespective and you will not get a longer battery life as you would have if you used a normal screen thus with a switchable gpu. Only plus point for the fanboys is the capability to use the 120Hertz screen.
Now I am no expert. But I don't know if the increase in the screen frequency will help merely only in the gaming field or also in other aspects like video or photo editing..
I hope those who have the normal and higher frequency screens would share the difference both the screens offer....

You can see a quick comparison between 60 vs 120 Hz here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpqbnMh0hvU. It is made by GentechPC and is a comparison between the 3D model of G73 vs non 3D model of G73.
120Hz is much brighter -
But does Dell Alienware use the same type of panels from Asus? -
No that comparison does not apply here, the 3d version of the G73 uses a Matte screen, the 120hz R3 screen is Wled glossy, completely different, so we need to see both R3 screens side by side to know the differences
-
I could be wrong here but since the 60 Hz version feature a glossy screen, shouldn`t IT be brighter than the matte screen of the 120 Hz?
-
I don`t know
-
there are 3rd party plugins for ati that enable the use of stereoscopic 3d with use of a 120hz monitor and glasses just not nvidia specific glasses
Technically you should be able to use the AMD Radeon 6970m on a 3D R3 to get the 120Hz screen
