Finally decided to splurge for an Alienware 17, and called Dell because I heard so much about the prices they can give you there.

    My system:

    Base Alienware 17: 14.000 DKK ($2500)
    +GTX 880m: 3000 DKK ($550)
    +1080p 60hz screen: 1000 DKK ($180)
    + Vindicator 17" Back Pack: 1000 DKK ($180)

    So that´s 19.000 DKK, or $3400.

It took a couple of days of calling the same guy over and over, because he had to go check with his supervisors each time he wanted to give me an offer.

One day he called me and told me it wasn´t gonna get any better than this.

He could sell it to me for 14.000 which turns out to be $2500 dollars - a cool $900 saved, or almost 30%.

What´s the biggest discount you have gotten?

I went for the Alienware 17 which was already £300 off in the sale, I was then able to haggle them down £220 more. It was amazingly easy actually.

I don't see why people pay the retail for an Alienware system, took me about 10 minutes in live chat to talk the price down.

    My system:

    Core i7-4910MQ
    GTX 880M
    16GB Ram
    Blu-Ray
    1TB HDD + 80G MSATA
    1 year accidental

    RRP: £2322
    Paid: £1780

With the haggle down in price Alineware systems become very competitive, can't wait for mine to arrive. Looking at how much you got taken off maybe I should have haggled more, but when he came back with the price reduction It fell into my budget and I just went for it.

That is a great deal you got there as well.

Im not sure If i made the right decision to upgrade the ram and SSD myself. It seems like quite a hassle compared to the somewhat decent prices I could have gotten with the discounts.

Got 16gb corsair vengeance and a samsung 850 pro 256gb SSD comming in next week, I seriously need to watch some guides before tearing my new baby apart.

Well I think you've done the sensible thing I wanted to do what you did but the deals on the UK site tied me to the extra ram and HDD as I wanted the 4910MQ and gave a instant saving of £300 compared to £100 with the 8GB ram and 4700MQ.

I haggled them down £220 more on top of that so I basically got the Ram/HDD and Blu Ray for free

Wow you guys got some great discounts there. I'm planning on ordering an Alienware 17 too in September. My first Alienware was an M15X, then M11xr1->M11xr3->M14xr1->M14xr2->M18xr2 to my current machine which is an AW14 (selling each as I moved along!). I was planning on switching brands this time to something light and portable, but think I will stick with Alienware as there are definitely some good deals to be had by the sounds of the above.

I've always managed to snag a good deal, e.g. with my M18xr2 I got SLI 680m for the price of one due to an error on their website but they fulfilled the order. I'm going to go with the same spec as the OP, except with the 3D 120Hz display which will come to just over €2,000. Do you think a discount of say 20% on this is a realistic target? I have never phoned in to a rep before - can you guys advise on a good strategy for getting the price down? (e.g. saying I have only X amount to spend and am considering a competing brand?). Thanks :)

What did the trick with the Dell Rep i spoke to, was that I told him I liked this brand, I wanted this computer specifically and I realized that it was a premium brand that I had to pay more for, but also that I didn´t want to pay more for a lesser specced machine (compared to the Asus g750jz). I would gladly pay more for the same specs, or even more for better specs, but I would´t spend more and get less. He completely understood what I meant and thats where he came back with the offer that was exactly the same price as the Asus.

I think 20% is a realistic target. The trick for me was I asked for a config I knew they didn't have and the rep said he was sorry but he couldn't help me, I said that's a shame as I wanted to go ahead with the order today. After that he started to really give me loads of deals I think they get paid commission rate so saying you want to do the sale today really helps.

all reps i ever called gave me maximum of 3% discount, i am in UK, tried all types of haggling and begging, they just could not offer me higher discount than about 3%

And yet i see you all here talking about easy 30%, and that is 30% discount from a system before tax is added when is sold in UK, so comparing to a UK resident, you are getting it 50% cheaper

    Flustration

    Sadness

    UK reality

only good thing i live in VAT free zone, so constant "20% discount", still BAD comparing to what you can get for the money

Well to be fair I work in the business as a salesman as well, so I know what "buttons" to push to get some great results out of them. That said, 3% is not a lot, and more should be possible. Then again, the 20% constant discount you have doesn´t sound too bad either.

Completely unrelated to PC´s, but very related to retarded pricing, I just bought a new car as well.

Now, I just checked Ford´s UK homepage where the pricing for a Fiesta ST starts at 17.000 pound. In Denmark, it starts at around 35.000. So theres that.

They were handing out 30% off coupons last year in the USA. People in Europe were getting codes but they weren't eligible for the deal, which was just stupid. I remember brother Steve going off about it, and I don't blame him. I'm in the States, and of course I'm glad we get these deals, but it's a shame others do not. Americans also tend to get better support, of which I am, again, very grateful for. That's one of the reasons I stuck around here: to help out where I can. And to argue with Octiceps. :D (Just kidding!)

I just sent a mail to the rep i´ve spoken to all along, and apparently he doesn´t work for Dell anymore.

Guess that offer was a little too good to be true. :D

Edit: For him that is. Already got my backpack and the laptop should be here monday.
