Thanks for affirmations on the flashing guys. As far as fan control, I've looked into it too, but need to do more testing. I couldn't get the options to stick or have much affect. As far as the other options, I'm still trying to figure that out as well, but it does appear to let you control the CPU TDP from BIOS, though I havn't gone to in depth with that as I havn't had enough time. If you notice anything, just let us know. Thanks, hope your enjoying!

I have ThrottleStop disabled with the numbers in the BIOS that start at '1023' set to 850 and 700. I just don't know what the conversion in 10ths of a watt is over to ThrottleStop numbers. The Vantage CPU score is the same as when the CPU is at stock clocks. The regular 5% OC and 75 and 150 over-volt still work though.

The fan controls are not responding either. I don't know if these options are supposed to work yet or not though. I'm certainly not complaining, just providing feedback. Thank you guys for everything.

I have a feeling we might end up making phone calls to Dell for motherboard replacement due to bios flashing...but whatever I am in for the ride and will read into the crisis recovery when time comes :p

Flashed the bios, went through flawlessly. Have set the 5% overclock on my 820qm and its working perfectly. Many thanks to the Wiz, you are the man !!! Will check out the other settings and report how it works on my system! Keep up the excellent work!! If there is any thing specific you would like me to test, i'd be glad to help wherever i can.

Flashed from A09... everything working as intended, just trying a 3% OC, will increase it later.

Needless to say, thank you very, very much!

awesome, just to check, if I install this bios, all values are on factory default? so I can just leave the ones i don't understand to what they are?

edit: I also used a 4GB usb for the crisisdisk, all worked fine under XP, so I guess that's ok? because you state using a 2GB usb drive

None of the OC settings or fan controls are working for me. The BIOS will let you OC your 740QM though, so let us know what kind of gains you see Psyloid.

sure, quick calc teaches me that 1.73Ghz+5% = 1.815Ghz :D (that would beat an 820QM)
I hope fan control will work for me; or will work in the future, i'd love to set up my own fan table for CPU/GPU

There are a whole lot of options and acronyms in the thermal area of the BIOS. Probably a second language to some, but it's going to take some 'getting used to' for me.

Yeah being able to even push out a 5% OC on the 820 I currently have will be nice. Though I intend to get a 920 (as they are very cheap right now) as soon as I get home.

I cant wait to start playing with a BIOS that is so unlocked... i'm actually a little giddy :D

What an awesome treat this is; All these hidden and unlocked Bios settings now available for us to play with.

I can't wait till the thermal setting controls are fully working.
Extra future GPU support. Now that would just be out of this world. Stupendous!
I can't wait to try some new Nvidia GPUs in my R2s!

Thanks heaps! Much Appreciated. :D :D

    Cheers. :)

As has been stated they are already working on an R1 BIOS improvement, and if the community is nice to them it is not with out reason that they may work on a new BIOS for the R3 in the future as well... but until official word from the guys putting in all of this hard work we need to keep this thread focused on the subject as much as possible.

    Thanks

Everything working as intended here, i rised the OC to 5%, benched and everything is working rock solid, no OV needed for my 840qm.

i'm actually investigating the other settings. As far as i have seen we are able to modify the behavior of our CPU fans vs temperatures but not of our GPU's. It's not a complaint, beware, just i want it confirmed.

The BIOS works perfectly. But how to OC more than 5%?

Because I have a 920XM and I have the 5%, with the Official BIOS.

^^^^ if you have a 920xm, slap that 5% OC back to default, and use throttlestop. You'll get the most stability out of that.

    @Psyloid

Afaik, yes. What the modded bios will do in the first place is to show (and eventually allow changes) values and settings that are already there, just hidden on the original Bios. So you basically don't need to change anything becouse everything is exactly as it was before. Just if you have a RAID system, you may need to reset your drives to be in RAID

    My only questions:

    1. Have there been any issues with the BIOS yet (aside from the fan/etc options not sticking that have been mentioned)?

    2. Will there be a guide to explain the more esoteric options for us lesser mortals? :D

Thanks for all the hard work! I'm just gonna hold off on flashing this until I understand everything the new stuff does / give it time for the more skilled to find and iron out any and all issues.

From my side no issues. Actually once it is flashed, i don't really think it can produce any issue. the bios is as the original A10 + the unlocked features. Issues may arise if one's recklessly messing around with unknown settings. TheWiz already stated that he may produce a pdf guide for us common mortal. Anyway some of the description we find once the new option are higlighted in bios should give a good idea of what the option is meant for. Other options are a little too criptic to be understood easly.

    1. So far I havn't heard of a single failed flash or system crash. I tested all beta versions and all flashed with no issue. Essentially what has been done was the Dell BIOS was unlocked, so all the hidden options have been made visible. The only thing patched was the BIOS OC. It was patched so that even a non XM CPU can be OCed by bypassing the lock on non XM's. That part alone hasn't had any issues either and appears to work flawlessly.

    2. TheWiz has stated that he will be putting together a PDF on what the other features do. But until then, my best advise is to look around, and if you see something that interests you, maybe do some googling before making changes.

I'll look into flashing here in a bit and see what happens. Curious about seeing how well the 5% OC will fare.

Yeah, I just flashed a while ago, and all the settings I had already were untouched. The only thing that changed was all the options that were already there but hidden due to no having an XM processor and Dell locking certain options for everyone became available.

Flash completed successfully and running ok, will test further and let everyone know.

Just a thought, all the BIOS options which have been unlocked not all are needed, am i right in this. If not then in V2 maybe re-hide them.

Eh, until I have a good idea of what all of it does (and maybe even after that) I'm not touching anything but the OC to 5% option. I must add that the 5% OC seems to work very nice. My temps didn't go up very much but I gained a decent amount of performance in BC2 (I'm at work/training so I can't really give hard numbers, but I had a 1.5 hour lunch break to play BC2 in and it worked great). I did notice that when reloading a checkpoint sometimes the water and other effects would go semi-crazy for a few minutes, which did not happen before playing with the OC. Then again, I haven't been playing it much since I went from the stock Dell video drivers to 11.2.
