Im just curious , how the MODed BIOS readable in apps such as CPU-Z, HWInfo32 ...
-
in cpu-z it still says
Alienware
A10

Will this mod enable port multiplier on the esata?
I can't tell from looking at the Sata Control Menu screenshot -
not sure if it works
-
That would be awesome, I would love to get one of those multi drive JBOD esata boxes that require esata port multiplier. -

@TheWiz
A big thanks to you guys for taking that extra step in making a new bios mod V1 and heres to a successful V2 =)
I am curious though what gpu's will be supported (if it can be done?) and also is it possible to include a gpu overclock function within the bios? Sorry for all of the questions
The 10% OC will be a great added feature and a blessing and hopefully we can see the max potential of our XM cards -
Anyone with a i7 920 and the mod installed, notice any difference especially with games? just wanted to check before I do the mod
-
i have a 940xm and its the same as A10. V2MOD @ 10% overclock is what i'm looking forward too

I would not expect any GPU overclocking via the BIOS. Have never seen or heard of that in any system.....aside from extremely limited IGP stuff
-
so any news about M17xr2 bioS MOD or whatever for GPU
6970 crossfire

Always ruining my dreams bud
It's kool, just wishful thinking I guess? Man, it would be sooooo kool tho
Well....here's hoping to future gpu support and that 10% OC heyaaa!!!! -
OMG Scook9 man stop blowing our dreams away
6970 takes less power with some bios mod ,, we can have it in our aliens 17r2
so dont u dare kill our dreams ROFL
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The 6970m will work long before you will get bios GPU overclocking if that makes you happier.
-
BIOS GPU overclocking doesn't even make sense, unless you guys are talking about the R1...
-
Vbios overclocking is the way to go overclocking a gpu in bios seem like a really bad idea

Actually; ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/521990-bios-modding-gpu-oc-fun-profit.html) this I think will do the trick? No? Sorry for being such a noob
-
so am in good mood and i think TheWiz can make r2 users happy
go go thewiz we want CF6970
or sli 470
-
cf 6970 preferred over 470
because ati > nvidia
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That is really a user preference. The good news is if he can do one he can likely do just about any GPU mod
Big if though.....we have to wait and see. -
Jusdt an update,
Thewiz is on other projects at the moment. Awaiting a pdf document on what the various unlock features do on version mod. Will publish when becomes available. -
You mean he is not solely dedicated to this small group of fringe enthusiasts!?!? Dang hhhiiiiiimmmmmmmm!!!!!!
-
It would be an absolute dream if you could mod the BIOS to support dual 6970s. I know that would be pushing the ps to it's limits, but I'm interested in the prospect of it at the very least
-
so any news guys even if its hard for our PS to handle CF 6970 we can go for SLi gtx470 it isint that bad and how much does gtx470 drains powers?
-
I searched through this thread and didnt see this comment but does anyone else notice that the OC does not persist through the computer sleeping?
When i wake my computer the OC bus speed of 140 has dropped to the regular 133. -
with mine, it remains 140.3MHz always
try it again man -
This is the main reason I never bothered to OC using the bios (on my 920xm or 940xm)

Msg from TheWiz @ biosmods
Hi guys,
There will be new information coming out. I have been extremely tied up this week and am a bit behind on all the BIOSes running aloof. I'll keep you posted.
TheWiz -
thanks for updating from TheWiz bro

Good morning @all,
thats a realy nice MOD and all works. But i have a question. At all Progs what show me the CPU Frequency, i see the original Frequency from the CPU. (I7 620 QM with 5% OC). Look at this:
Is that normal? And the another question is, exist there a DOC over all the new Bios Funktions?
Thanks and best reguards.
Crazy1212 -
That is normal. That is the chips default speed, the "Core Speed" is your new speed. The 2.67 is what the M 620 is stock speed so it shows that in the specification.. Its from CPU-Z's database. The "Clocks (Core #0)" is the "running" speed.. Thats what you need to look at.
Also, thats looks more than 5% OC, make sure its stable in stress tests and your nicely thermal pasted.. Unless the 5% is for Bus Speed, your running almost a 1Ghz difference... Did you change multiplier? 133Mhz x 25 = 3.35Ghz.. -

Uuhhrgg....! I think the I7 620M has a 3.6 GHz Turbo. Ohhh... ....!
OK, all right. But is the OC only for the Turbo Speed and not the normaly CPU Speed (2.66 GHz) ?
And what i need is a description for all the new features in this very nice Bios MOD.
Thanks for replays.
Crazy.
ps.: Do not interfere with my crappy english. -
CptXabaras Overclocked, Overvolted, Liquid Cooled
overclock is for the bus frequency. No matter the multiplier used. so even if not turbo boosted the cpu will run 140 x "whatever multiplier". So yes, even normal speed will be higher

For a Single thread it adds a considerable boost. That was one of the big improvements of Lynnfield/Clarksfield vs Bloomfield

So, thanks for info. Now i make a restore to the original A10 Bios. My heart beat.....! I create a USB Stick with the Windos XP Mode from Win 7. It works. All what you must do is assign the USB Port to the Stick and run the WINCRIS.EXE. But during the restore it's a little confusing. The USB flash short and than it's still. After maybe 5 min. the system shut down. I press the power Butten and the System comes up. And all what i need is to say the Bios that i hav a RAID 0. And all works!
GREAT JOB to "The Wiz" and "Goodstone"!!!!
THX @all

Thanks for confirming that you can create crisis usb from xp mode windows 7.
I will update first post to include this info +1 rep -
Just wondering why BIOS on desktop machines can accept many GPU's but laptops cannot, sorry for the noob post as I have not gone to study this on internet
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Also I think there are some vendor specific pins to the MXM connector for things like sound over display port -
would it be possible add the ability to enable Intel graphics on cpu's with it? (disable discrete graphics too)I always thought you should at least have the option to change over if someone really needed the extra battery life.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
No, that is a chipset limitation and the bios can't unlock it. You would need the HM55 chipset to use the IGP
-
-
hmm.. 5% OC is OK but if i make a stress test the temp don't come over 60°. I think more OC is possible. I see in another Alienware Bios the Option to go upto 15% OC. Look at this:
i will have it. -
where is it from bro?
-
That is the Dell engineering bios x30. You would proberly never get your hands on that one.
Thewiz is working on bios o/c to 10% or more by changing token values.
People are getting closer to getting ati 69's to work. Some one has one in his r2. Temps are high and a few driver crashes but with a little time im sure we will get there.
And with the rumour Dell release of m18x. I am just hoping that the 330w psu that comes with it would be compatible with the r2, but at the mo it is speculation. There also if the is an issue if the power system can handle 2 of the 69 cards.
The First M17x R2 BIOS mod. Need suggestions for future mods.
