No word so far, as the the bios is still being looked at, however the 6900 series cards work in the R2 provided you use Clevo cards. ;)

Thanks, I've been keeping up with the events of those 6900 cards ;) .

Was hopping to see some Nvidia cards running in SLI, just for some extra options .

Please have an option to reduce RAM multiplier so those of us with non xm CPUs and don't wanna crack their case open just yet can overclock their CPUs :p

    Hi people,

    Another update on project

    goodstone Wrote:
    Hi Chris,

Is there a beta release for the m17xr2 bios yet. The guys at notebook forum seem to think that the project is dead. Would be greatfull if i could get back to them with some great news or a release date perhaps. I know you a busy man . I am sorry for harrasing you again about it.

    Best Regards Ant

    Hey Ant,

I'm sure they are worried about the project, but I assure you it remains in tact. I have had such limited time to work on my BIOS Mods project that I stll have the new in works beta to finalize with my comodder on this project. We do indeed have new features we know are programmable and are ready to be debugged, so I just need to set a timeline I know we will be able to keep. What is tha maximum amount of time you think they will be able to hold out waiting on the next release? I'd like you to assure them it isn't dead, but that I have been trying my best to manage quite a schedule.

    Thanks for checking in.

Thanks for the update goodstone, my R2 stays but sad to see that nothing has been done for the M17x (R1) and mine is about to leave ..

hi all, i dont know if this is possible. But if yes then maybe we could permanently tweak the bios so that R2 users would have optimal SSD performance ?

Since R2 is Killing it (perfo)

there are some workarounds but we would be more happy if this would be a permanent implementation into the bios.

    :) thanks

Should I use this BIOS? I understand there are more options as far as voltages and such, but I'm about to replace my two 5870s with some 6990s. Should I stick with the regular A10 BIOS or flash this modded one?

If you don't need the extra options just stick with the official one ;)

This bios is mostly only beneficial for those who do not have an XM CPU because if unlocks the cpu 5% bios overclock for non XMs.

I hope there is a tweak to fix/ignore the powersupply messaging. I hate that this "firmware" stops my battery from charging.

So quick question if anyone knows, I have flashed the modded A10 bios with no issues. I have selected 5% CPU over clocking but the CPU frequency remains the same at 1.73GHz (I have a i7 740QM). The only change I have seen is the Turbo mode frequency is around 3.0 GHz, from the old 2.8GHz before the mod. HWinfo64 confirms that the CPU watts fluctuates between 23-36 watts but never approaches 45watts even during gaming. Does anyone know what else I can do or what I'm doing wrong. Many thanks in advance. :D

not sure about the cpu not overclocking, but games dont fully utilise quad core cpus to the max anyway, HWinfo should tell you the load on each core, I can tell you now it wont be 100% on all of them maybe one or two

If TheWiz is monitoring this thread, a few of us NBR members have a proposition for you......We are in desperate need of M18x PSU compatibility, and are eager to compensate you for a bios fix, and all of the work that youv'e already selflessly done for us M17x R2 owners....We are putting a drive forward, let us know what you think is a fair reward for the job:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/585064-guide-installing-amd-radeon-mobility-6970-6990-your-m17x-r2-single-gpu-crossfirex-426.html

How does the 580m compare to the 6990? I believe DR650 scored 17k in GPU with an overclocked single 6990. Exploring my options, may likely wait for the 7 series ATI cards to come out, hopefully they're compatible.

Depends on the game, but 580M SLI is 10-15% faster than 6990M CF. Alienware laptops can take almost any modern MXM 3.0b card, but it is the vBios that is tricky to get down.

Thanks katalin, I ran prime95 and under CPU it confirms the CPU speed. Funny thing now, the BIOS is reporting the over clocked values now after running prime. Go figure, +1 rep.

Well hopefully the 7900 series will bring 6990m power at a lower wattage. Hopefully 75-80.

I do believe that the OP has the latest version. It has been quite a while since an update or post, but the mod works great.

Can someone confirm the support for the 7970m in this release. Will this modded BIOS be capable of solving the issue with the Dell AMD 7970m shutting down at 80-85 degrees in the M17x R2? :)

When this mod has been released, the 7970 didn't exist. I doubt that something has been done on this mod to address the issue

    Sad,

This could solve the issue. I do not have any knowlegde dealing with modding a BIOS and I guess people in here with the problem is a minority after all...
