You most likely have M17x R1 or R2, and you've installed the Command Center from the resource CD am i right?...
You have corrupted the AlienFX chip firmware, and it need to be reflashed.

As i thought. You see, the laptops resource CD comes with an old version of CC wich has an old firmware for the AlienFX chip. Once you install the CC from dell website it upgrades the AlienFX chip firmware and you must always use the CC from dell website, if you use the one from resource CD, it will try to downgrade the firmware, but in doing so, it bricks it.
For the AlienFX to work again it needs to be reflashed with proper firmware, but the CC can't do it anymore because it doesn't recognize the chip.

Yes, while dell will usually replace the whole motherboard, it is possibile to repair the lighting itself and you won't need a new motherboard :)
Doing that you do require to have a special set of tools and a SiLabs programmer.
    Where are you from?

Yeah. Well once the controller gets corrupted, this happens. It won't work unless you reflash the AlienFX chip.

If you feel adventurous for repairing it, or want it repaired as cheap as possibile, PM me ;)

    OK..
To reflash the AlienFX chip that's mean change the motherboard..
    Is that's right.
    Thanks

No you don't need to change the motherboard, the chip on the motherboard can be reflashed and the alienFX will start working again.

You need a USB Debugger, Silabs "Flash Programming Utility" software, a special connector and a HEX file for your laptops motherboard.

Yeah u can send it to me, and i can fix it for you if you don't want to go through the trouble or just don't wanna bother with repairing it.

For a M17x R1 i very much doubt you can have any warranty, and as such i wouldnt just go replacing the board. It's just not worth it unless dell wants <80$ for it.
I would rather just reflash the chip, the tools shouldn't cost you more than 30$, i would have to check, it was a long time since i assembled everything...

If more people are interested i could put up a guide on how to repair alienFX on M15x and M17x R1 / R2.

Holy **** :/.... not worth it man, i'd repair yours for 25$ + shipping, the tools to do it yourself would also cost you around 30$... And the motherboards can be bought for around 60-70$ :)
