All i do is play computer games and watch some movies now and then. Some of the games i play are like Crysis and Counter Strike also World Of Warcraft.

If anyone is able to help me with my decission that would be great as im not sure what to go with the Dual 4870's or the Single 5870?

    Thanks

If you wait until May 5th Dell/Alienware is supposed to release the 5870's in crossfire.

If you don't want to wait the 4870's preform better then a single 5870.

You might be able to get a 2nd 5870 when the duals come out (but that is only rumor).

nice the dual 5870's would kick the of most desktops :) but unfortunatly im impatient and im surprised i have lasted this long. Would there be a huge jump in performance from the dual 4870's to the single 5870?

Yes huge jump, but if you are impatient, just go for the single 5870, since the release date for the crossfire is just rumors ,nothing official it has been said.

Ones you get use to your machine, in a near future you could ad second card if you find the needs for it.

I think i might do that and just get it with the single 5870 because it is more then enough for me with what i want to do i mean the only graphis intesive game that i play would be crysis and the 5870 will handle that no problems and also it is a fair bit cheaper then the dual 4870's so i can afford to upgrade the cpu from the i7-720QM to the i7-820QM :) thank you all for the information :)

why single when there's an open slot for maybe 2nd? It cost more to get it later too, just wait and see if it can hold 2 5870's...Me I don't think it'll happened cause AW woulde've had it by now!!! It's not that hard to install 1 more 5870 in an open slot. Maybe R-3 M17x with a new board and chipset would hold it.

The thing is...Really, the 820QM is NOT worth the money. By far. It only gives you a 0.13GHz boost in speed which under nearly all conditions will be an unnoticeable increase in performance.

If you don't plan on putting a second card in later, then don't get the M17x. End of story. There are cheaper and smaller laptops out there with a single 5870 and an i7.

The dual 5870s will be an absolute beast, so I would recommend waiting. (Especially as aftermarket purchase of a 5870 will be very expensive) If you can't wait, then do go for the 4870s, as they will be MUCH quicker than a single 5870.

(As in 50% or more increase in performance over a 5870, in games that support Crossfire well)

4870 x2 > 5870 x1 by around 25-30% (on average) judging by benchmark tests. My advice would be to wait for the 5870 XF, can't be too long a wait now. Crysis is pretty poor at optimizing XF/SLI setups so the improvement (if any) will only be marginal.

I've talked to two Dell reps. They're claiming that they probably won't release Xfire 5870's because of power issues. Might be BS, but that's what they've told me.
