yep, i use regular urethane automotive paint with clear-coat two coats of paint and 2 of clear-coat first you need to sand the black paint with 1000 grip sand paper and water after that you can clean it real good and apply the paint then let it dry for 10 min and apply the clear-coat pretty easy :)

I'm almost tempted to purchase the parts from Dell and send them to you for painting... lol. On second thought, no 'order' discussion here please. ;)

Send him a PM instead. lol

Seriously though, the white looks top notch. I have been saying (like many of you) since day 1 that AW really needs to offer some color choices. Nebula Red and Lunar Gray are cool but having say Yellow, White, perhaps an Alien Green and a few others would really make the system stand out.

Again, nice job on the white chassis!

Great job! It looks similar to my silver... yet different. Also I liked your post with m17x matte screen... you should link these threads in your sig. Also if it's not too much of a hassle, I think everyone would loved to see matte mod vs non-modded screen comparison. :)

If you could do this again, is there a chance to paint the back grills a different color?

Great job speedy! Looks great. My favorite color would be yellow like Inap did for his M15x with the decal, that looked great. You guys should also look into contacting your local automotive shops. I contacted a few around here and they said they could sand blast the black off the M17x and use powder coating even though its anodized aluminum. I was very tempted to paint mine yellow and still might.

But I gotta tell you...with all these insane projects, - you ARE bored! :p
And this boredom, if directed properly, can bring you helluva $$$ ;)

Once again, superb! You probably have the most unique M17X-R2 in the universe.

Theoretically could you use any automotive paint? There's this metallic purple that my car's model comes in this year (makes me want to trade in my '09 for an '10!) that I drool over every time I see.

Do you just use a regular spray can bought from a store or do you use a pneumatic type spray gun?

Idea. I think we should all petition for Alienware to team up with some custom spray paint company so that we can more customization options. More sales for them, more satisfying for us. :)

Custom colours would be a great idea - i too am very happy with nebula red but would have been great to have more choice.

The guys at Kobalt Computers Welcome to Kobalt Computers - High Performance Custom PC's will, on certain models, provide you with the option of a custom paint job and you can even provide your own artwork to be graced upon the chassis/lid. They used to do it, dunno if they still do....

Would be good if AW took a leaf outta their book for the AW laptops eh?

if they charge 100$ extra for neb red(not in uk though) i wonder how much they would charge for custom art work IF they ever provide that option... A few more colour options would be great as base....

It's always been way too expensive for it to be worth it IMO. I just checked Avadirect.com for a Clevo dealer because I know a lot of those places have the paint option, and it was $350(US). Wow! I would rather just use vinyl/stickers and cover it that way for that price.

Yes you can use any kind of paint Urethane lacquer or enamel and you need a top LVLP spray gun

that would be crazy if we can include the Pimped M17x to a snoop dog video lol.

Thanks you should do it i love yellow but i may prefer a nice metallic green

Thank you, so when you want to paint your 8740W ? :D ;)

I still think a cool option (allbeit very pricey) would be to take it to your local electroplater - then you can have it in gold or proper silver! LOL

I also quite like the pearlescent paint that you see on some cars - the kind that looks different colours from different angles - that would be MY choice of paint job if i had to paint the chassis/lid.

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=8229 - there is a car on this thread about half way down - would be my choice ......

Beautifully done, Speedy. That is an amazing job. White is not the easiest color to get right.

I would also like to see Alienware offer more colors for the M15x/M17x. A neon green might look nice . . .

It is a sweet paint job Speedy :)

Sure most of you have heard of Falcon Northwest but they do some pretty awesome custom paint jobs but you do pay out the yin-yang.

They can pretty much do anything you ask...

THe chameleon color people were mentioning. The 2 pictures below are the same laptop from different angles.

Then the Gold/Blue color is a $1200 a pint paint... Harlequin

They should have a Cyborg green for when the GTX 470M becomes available for the M17x and M15x. I loved that color...

Paintjob looks awesome man. Reminds me very much of my m17/Whitebook that I painted white!
