Wow - very nice. What type of paint did you use and can you share your application method?
Nice looking 17x! -
that is sexy!
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
yep, i use regular urethane automotive paint with clear-coat two coats of paint and 2 of clear-coat first you need to sand the black paint with 1000 grip sand paper and water after that you can clean it real good and apply the paint then let it dry for 10 min and apply the clear-coat pretty easy
-
Yeah its a beauty and by far the best looking M17x i have seen
..
-
Very nice.

thanks guys this was inspired in the M15X white i paint for Mandrake at the beginning of this year it looks real good that's why i decide to paint my M17X
-
I've always dreamed of a white M17x. Superb!
-
Wow! that's a paint job!
-
I'm almost tempted to purchase the parts from Dell and send them to you for painting... lol. On second thought, no 'order' discussion here please.
Send him a PM instead. lol -

Seriously though, the white looks top notch. I have been saying (like many of you) since day 1 that AW really needs to offer some color choices. Nebula Red and Lunar Gray are cool but having say Yellow, White, perhaps an Alien Green and a few others would really make the system stand out.
Again, nice job on the white chassis! -

Thanks BatBoy i think you right we need a nice blue an yellow too Dell need to start thinking on that
-
Great job! It looks similar to my silver... yet different. Also I liked your post with m17x matte screen... you should link these threads in your sig. Also if it's not too much of a hassle, I think everyone would loved to see matte mod vs non-modded screen comparison.
-
Dayum man. That is one smokin' laptop.
I wish I had a couple hundred bucks so I could send my m15x to you and have it painted. But I don't. -
That is crazy bro. Nice job. I'm gonna go ahead and send you a PM. Thanks for the parts link too.
If you could do this again, is there a chance to paint the back grills a different color? -
I don't normally like white laptops, but that is sweet looking! Good job! Hmmm, how would a dark blue look
-
As someone said in another thread, this is a total Storm Trooper laptop. I feel the power of the dark side just looking at it.
-
Great job speedy! Looks great. My favorite color would be yellow like Inap did for his M15x with the decal, that looked great. You guys should also look into contacting your local automotive shops. I contacted a few around here and they said they could sand blast the black off the M17x and use powder coating even though its anodized aluminum. I was very tempted to paint mine yellow and still might.
-
Awesome job, Speedy!
But I gotta tell you...with all these insane projects, - you ARE bored!
And this boredom, if directed properly, can bring you helluva $$$
Once again, superb! You probably have the most unique M17X-R2 in the universe.
Repped! -
When I read the title i thought What The ??? Why???
Now that I see the Pics all I can say is Wow that is a sweet job, Congrats -
Theoretically could you use any automotive paint? There's this metallic purple that my car's model comes in this year (makes me want to trade in my '09 for an '10!) that I drool over every time I see.
Do you just use a regular spray can bought from a store or do you use a pneumatic type spray gun? -

Wow, nice job.....
Maybe you should host a new show on MTV called "Pimp my Alienware"......lolol
Wonder if any really rich AW owner has a fully pimped out M17x with bling bling all over it.....hahahahaha -
this simply looks awesome!
-
Awesome... Wish I had the guts to do it ;-). But again you have to sacrifice the warranty....edit:Unless....Unless you have a spare case with the original color...
-
Idea. I think we should all petition for Alienware to team up with some custom spray paint company so that we can more customization options. More sales for them, more satisfying for us.
-
I love my nebula red but would have loved dark metallic blue even more..
-

Custom colours would be a great idea - i too am very happy with nebula red but would have been great to have more choice.
The guys at Kobalt Computers Welcome to Kobalt Computers - High Performance Custom PC's will, on certain models, provide you with the option of a custom paint job and you can even provide your own artwork to be graced upon the chassis/lid. They used to do it, dunno if they still do....
Would be good if AW took a leaf outta their book for the AW laptops eh? -
if they charge 100$ extra for neb red(not in uk though) i wonder how much they would charge for custom art work IF they ever provide that option... A few more colour options would be great as base....

I won't be painting the HP but if my M17X doesn't sell fast, might cancel the sale and keep it...for such projects. -

I still think a cool option (allbeit very pricey) would be to take it to your local electroplater - then you can have it in gold or proper silver! LOL
I also quite like the pearlescent paint that you see on some cars - the kind that looks different colours from different angles - that would be MY choice of paint job if i had to paint the chassis/lid.
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=8229 - there is a car on this thread about half way down - would be my choice ...... -
Amazing job... The white is great, I just never understood why alienware never proposed different color. On a system this expensive there should be 20 color options... + rep
-
NICE JOB MAN!!! i would love to paint mine camo
-
Nice job! +1. That looks glorious!! Like an Angel!

Beautifully done, Speedy. That is an amazing job. White is not the easiest color to get right.
I would also like to see Alienware offer more colors for the M15x/M17x. A neon green might look nice . . . -
Really great job man !; can you paint me on electric blue ? I got nebula red but i love blue LOL
-
looking good speedy!
-
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
a yellow like my car would look good i think. dark enough but still bright and shiny (pegasus yellow). they already had a nice blue and green back in the day. maybe add the mettalic look to them and we have a nice colour set

That is a superb paint job Speedy! I didn't think white would look soo good on an AW but you definitely made up my mind on that lol!! +1
-
It is a sweet paint job Speedy
Sure most of you have heard of Falcon Northwest but they do some pretty awesome custom paint jobs but you do pay out the yin-yang.
They can pretty much do anything you ask...
THe chameleon color people were mentioning. The 2 pictures below are the same laptop from different angles.
Then the Gold/Blue color is a $1200 a pint paint... HarlequinAttached Files:

They should have a Cyborg green for when the GTX 470M becomes available for the M17x and M15x. I loved that color...
Paintjob looks awesome man. Reminds me very much of my m17/Whitebook that I painted white! -
Verry Cool Speedy
.
Don't think I'll every be that bored. +Rep. -
