There does not seem to be a clear consensus on the 120 hz screen

    • there is a 120Hz panel for the R4 (3D panel) Part no. DHCG2,

    • will require cable (some eBay sellers sell with cable) Part no. 2JD3N
    https://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=14231

    • 3D will only work with a GTX 6XXm series card ( with an upgraded GPU the panel will work just can't use 3D)

    • yes you will not be able to use Optimus/ boot on IGPU (no GTX 980m on win 7 without optimus)

    • can OC GPU not panel is G/free sync compatible. Also in this laptop stay away from EVGA & MSI overclocking software use Nvidia inspector, RTSS & HWiNFO64

    • yes I have one part no. is: B173HW01 V5,

having a 120hz panel will auto disable the iGPU since the iGPU doesn't support 60hz and plus the display is routed through the eDP connector on the motherboard rather than the LVDS connector - hence the different cable.

I cannot say for certain, but I would be surprised if it did

    Yes it runs a 60Hz

I don't have a 120HZ panel so I cannot say 100% but I would expect it to be like running in peg mode
    i.e.

you will still be able to view the bios

if you switch to the iGPU you will get a beep code error on startup (used to get this after windows broke Optimus for me I could either boot on iGPU or PEG, not SG)

when upgrading GPU's you might have to start the laptop blind/ there might be times you have to blind flash

optimums is for nvidia iGPU switching? AMD has a name for their equivalent software too. Are there really any cons to to having just the dedicated card running? I sure as heck don't use it on my lap or make use of the battery.

EDIT: looks like i'm getting a 60hz screen, the 120hz R4 screens are a tad pricey.

Yes Optimus is Nvidia GPU switching

AMD does have some equivalent but I am not familiar with it. Unfortunately, I have not used an AMD laptop GPU

Not really you even get a bit of a performance gain. The only really downside is you can't use win 7 & GTX9XXm in Peg mode

When you go into the bios to set the graphics mode you get the following options

    PEG: Dedicated GPU
iGPU: The processors built in graphics processor
SG: able to switch between the two (Optimus)

You may need an unlocked bios to set this. It has been so long since I used a stock bios I can't remember see tech inferno for @svl7's unlocked bios

well that bit me in the ass. i got the 60hz screen and now i've already run in to an issue where the HD7970m does not kick in and it runs the games just the HD400 iGPU. IDK why though having the ability to use the iGPU was a good idea.

There isn't any reason the 3D panel wouldn't show up in the os and games as a 120 hz screen right? or in other words it isn't limited to 60 hz WITHOUT 3D right?
Also it should have the same black levels as the 60 hz screen i assume?
