Excellent question, I'd like to know as well. I've already set my mind on the arctic cooling mx4 for my paste, just gotta find some nice pads.

.5mm is the size to get.

I'd like to know as well - I just posted on this exact topic less than 2 hours ago. Where did you find the MX-4? I've been looking, but gave up and settled on AS-5.

Thanks! And that's universal across all versions, R1/2/3, right? What about the northbridge/9400m? The same 0.5mm thickness?

should work for most, not sure of the 9400m.

so far i used it on M15x with 260m/5870/5850,

    M17x-r2 with 5870's & r3 with 6970, has given me great results.

also had tried the 1mm sheets, but .5mm gave me the best results so far.

mx-4 could be found at frozen cpu also. i suggest ordering at the same time since shipping is pricey on the thermal pads.

Thanks very much, inap. Oh, the 9400m is the northbridge, btw. All on the same die. I'm on an R1 - don't know if that's a different story than in R2's and 3's.

As for MX-4.. do you believe it's worth the money, considering that I already have AS-5 coming in the mail from NewEgg? I know that MX-4 spreads a bit more easily, and has slightly better thermal properties.. but is it worth the $12?

    Thanks man, +rep

I just ordered a nice anti-static mat that has a built in wrist strap, a premium thermal pad sheet and some anti-static baggies. on a decent sized order like that the shipping isn't such a bad deal lol

These Thermal pads will pair nicely with my IC Diamond

honestly there is little difference between the top brands +- a few degrees. so if you have as-5 then there is no reason to get the mx-4.

my favorite paste is prolly ocz freeze which is one of the cheapest paste out there.

Anyone know where I can pick up pads, other than frozencpu?
They won't add taxes to Canadian orders, which really complicates the process for me

that's the only place that I found quality pads, anywhere else online I saw them they had terrible reviews stating they were made poorly and in some cases were simply unusable due to a packaging flaw.

Whatever hassle you have to deal with by ordering them from frozencpu is probably marginal to what you will deal with trying to find another quality supplier.

I decided to try requesting a quote and a sample of the pads direct from Fujipoly. I stated a need for architectural notebook thermal management for the office (which is true - we have 8 precision M6500's which could all use a little love) and gave my business number. Hopefully I'm not too smallfry for them!

PS: They list pads that are nearly 3x 'better' than the "premium" stuff listed on frozencpu

Is MX4 the best ceramic paste right now? How does OCZ Freeze compare to it?

Kunekaden, let me know how that turns out for you with the pads.

There is no best, everybody has their own preference. I used to swear by as5 but after reading around, some say mx4 performs very well so I'll give that a try.

Another question, is the .5mm only for the 460 or for 6970 also?

I advise you all to measure your stock thermal pads before buying new ones, as often different sizes are used (even 4mm!) it all depends on the cards architecture and heatsinks shape.

TIP: Measure them on the sides(usually they are larger than the chip itself so they're not compressed )
Applying thinner pads will more likely result in poor contact of the part/chip with the heatsink, while applying thicker pads will lift your heatsink and in this case other components(GPU die, memory chips etc.) will make poor contact and lack of cooling.

    The 9400m on the R1 comes with a 10mm x 10mm and 1mm thick pad

Just got off the phone with Fujipoly.
They are mailing me a 300x200mm (or 300x300mm? Had a 2nd call when he was describing it to me) sheet of the product I requested (the one on frozencpu) as well as a sheet of their top tier product! They also directed me to their Canadian distributor.

    edit:
    50G-m 300mm x 200mm x 0.5mm(I'm pretty sure this is what's listed on frozencpu)

Here's their Canadian distrib, if anyone's interested! (Warning!! Extremely Ghetto Website)

Alright great. So when do you think you will be testing it? Let me know how your results will be and if you purchase them, I will be wanting to see if you can get me some since you already seem setup.

    Thanks
