I have waited for the M18x but it has failed me (I love silver & I don't like 16:9 screens). So I am thinking of purchasing a M17xR2 with GTX 285 in SLi (Yes, I need CUDA) and RGB LED screen from outlet. I have some questions:

    1. Disabling PCI-E Gen 2 on my M17xR1 makes everything works flawlessly. It seems that M17xR2 also has BSOD & Freezing issues, can I do the same workaround? (or another workaround?)

    2. Can I install drivers from nVIDIA website (270.61)? And if yes, does Optimus work? Does manual switch work?

    3. Has the SSD performance problem been fixed yet?

    Thank you very much!

I have the same machine and i never get freezing @ thats also running 5% o/c.
the 285m GTX cards are awesome and most games fly at max settings!
you would not need to disable PCI GEN2 as there isn't an option for it!

    Good Choice

    Thank you Mkelliny & DanXbix.

@DanXbix: How about the driver, do you use dell's driver or nvidia's driver? And how about optimus/switchable graphics?

So, does the R2 run on GTX 285M in battery mode? Can I choose between GTX 285M and Intel Graphics in BIOS?

No there is no switchable graphics at all in the R2. So It will be the 285s running but you can disable the crossfire which will give you some extra Life.
