    Hello.

Today I realized that I tend to have more free time at my job than I do at home. My current laptop is pretty pitiful for gaming, and my desktop is at home which doesn't help my problem.I am ready for an upgrade and I'm looking at the stock Alienware 17 for 1500. Is it worth the price?

For GFX of my laptop. AMD 4200 Mobility. Haha.

    Alienware 17 base GFX NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 765M with 2GB GDDR5.

    Desktop is Radeon 6870.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to NBR!

I cant say from these specifications, can you please put the complete specs?

    I can only say that:
    1. Get a minimum of GTX 770M(780M is the best) but probably out of your budget
    2. Please do not go cheap on screen, take 1920x1080, you wont regret it
    3. I am guessing the base RAM config is 8GB, so it will be more than enough

you can look at Notebook / Laptop Reviews and News - NotebookCheck.net for comparison of various graphics cards

    Good luck with your purchase

Wow I have that same desktop card. Anywho the 765m had the same performance to a desktop 6870 roughly. It would be worth it to step up to the 770 for the boost however if you are like me and are not going to play any first person shooters you should be fine. I have played WoW FFXIV gw2 league batman and can't remeber my fps ever dropping below 40-50 On my 765m.

I'll be getting something similar soon, though I'll be upgrading a few things. The one thing I'd highly recommend you get from Alienware off the bat is the 1920x1080 screen upgrade. It's not just resolution; a lot of the time the lower res panels have lower contrast ratios, less colour accuracy, etc.

I would just add a better video card than the stock one for more enjoyable gaming :)
