    Hi,

Well I am going to be purchasing a Alienware M17x in the next few days, because my HP HDX is falling to pieces.

For the past couple of weeks I have been stuck on the M17x R3, since it has the nice Sandy Bridge CPU. Although recently, I have found out that the chassis is prone to pealing and that is not something I want on a $2000+ laptop. So, I have been looking at M17x R2's, because they perform near the same (weak CPU though) and have a better aluminum chassis.

Along searching, I have found this one on Newegg. My question is, does this one have the RGB screen?

    M17x10-1453DSB
    Newegg.com - DELL Alienware M17x10-1453DSB Notebook Intel Core i7 740QM(1.73GHz) 17.0" Wide XGA+ 6GB Memory DDR3 1333 640GB HDD 7200rpm BD Combo Dual ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870

If it does or not, would you recommend getting this one over the R3? I have no clue what to do now. I do not want to go back to cheap build quality.

Sorry if this is a dumb post, but I cannot find any information on this Newegg model at all.

    Thanks in advance,
    Nate

That has the 1440x900 screen which is the WXGA screen. It is NOT the RGB LED screen, not even close. Check out the details tab, where it lists display.

I would personally scout ebay to see if there are any good deals on used M17x. Once you get your post count up you can check out the NBR Marketplace there are a couple that have RGB screens and their 1500$. The RGB screen is incredible, I have never seen it up until a couple days ago when I got my R2 and I have to say it beats my LED 24in Samsung display I use on my desktop. The colors are amazing and the brightness levels are fantastic even in harsh light. If you want a screen that is gonna be phenomenal go for an M17x R2 with a RGB. If you want something brand new that will perform just as well get the R3.

    Oh, I see now.

I believe that RGB only comes with the 1080p screens?

    Ah dang.

I wanted a 900p or lower, just so that I could get the higher FPS from games.

    Oh well, I will see..

No, it comes with the 1200p

Don't deprive yourself of the best TN panel and almost extinct real estate (1200p is no more) just because you fear about low FPS. You can always upgrade to more powerful GPU's down the road. There are successful attempts to install a CF 6970M in the M17xR2, so you have nothing to worry about as far as games concerned. The RGBLED screen all the way.
