    The first one it has a much better gpu(big boost).


    You can upgrade hdd/wireless card yourself and much cheaply.

    Only reason to get 460m is for 3d/120 scree other than that there is no point.

    Well isn't the 460 also good for the optimus and extended battery life?

    Not particularly. If you're going for max battery life, you won't be using the dedicated gpu, you'll be using the IGP. Optimus does auto switch for you, but it can bug up at times and that is annoying. manual switching is more efficient, because you control it better.

    So, in the end, they both will use the same amount of battery life, but with the 460m, you won't have an as powerful gpu

    460m + 120hz does not support optimus as far as i know.

    I dont think it was the 3d 460m, just the standard 460m.

    Honestly don't know why he wouldn't go with the 6970 if he's not going the 3d route though, just makes more sense and he'll be thanking himself down the road
