Hello, the laptop is only 4 days old, and it looks like some 'paint' has chipped off, first of all I thought the chassis was anodized alluminium, which should not chip at all, second, the laptop has only been on my desk and two times on my lap, nothing but normal use happened with it.
Now Dell's warranty also doesn't cover cosmetic damage .....
What to do, call in and hope they take it under warranty and have a tech disassemble my perfect working M17x (yes , i'm lucky, no flaws whatsoever) or shall I take some warhammer paint and touch it up a bit and hope it doesn't evolve any further ....

This shouldn't happen on a $3000 machine ....
I'm really annoyed -
That looks like something hard had to scratch that. I've been traveling with mine for over half a year and it is only showing some wear on the corners within the last couple of weeks. Are you sure you didnt rub anything hard against it? And its brand new, not referb?
That really is strange in my option, but do remember that even with the anodized alluminium, this is still painted; the color is only on the surface and not permeated throughout the metal.
last question, where is that on your laptop? I cant recognize the angle? -
Is it a refurb or a new machine? If its a new machine then I certainly wouldn't be happy. Personally I would ask for a replacement chassis or a new machine, simply because my eyes would always be drawn to it and it would really annoy me too.

i'm 100% I didnt scratch it, It's a brand new one, no refurb, and its on the front on two different places, see pic
also, it wasn't there day one, i just noticed yesterday
Edit: maybe my belt buckle touched it when it was on my lap, but it would have never been hard
Edit 2 : I don't feel much for a tech fitting a new chassis, and i dont feel much for waiting for a new machine either, I also feel lucky that this one is working fine, so i think i will take my paint and fix it myself ...Attached Files:

TurbodTalon Notebook Virtuoso
My laptop does some pretty hard traveling, and it's got only a couple of little cosmetic blemishes in the chassis. What's your belt buckle made of? Unless its plastic, there's a possibility of it scratching up your chassis. Might I suggest a black magic marker?

buckle is metal ... , just bought a logitech n700 lapdesk and i will retouch the paint myself, I want my stuff to look new and clean ... I wipe it with a microfibercloth all the time ... my wife goes crazy about it, she doesn't understand why i clean my notebook all the time and not the house ... LOL

So true. I too did accidentally hit my laptop's back with my College bench, got a small chip off(Jeez, its Nebula RED!!)
Secondly, The plastic covering the Speakers has scratches too! Wear and tear. :S
Any suggestions to cover up Red Color scratch/Chip off? Thanks!
This is not normal, is it?
