Thought I would check on extended warranty options :)

I think Dell has a sick sense of humor. I paid $1800 for my laptop. It is less then a year old (recieved it on July 29th last year) and this is the price, if I want to max out warranty (total 4 years from date of purchase.. so it will be 3 and a bit from now) with accidental.

I always thought warranties cost less then the product. I stand corrected =) After taxes, in Ontario, it reaches a grand total of $2,639.91
On a side note I do understand they are incredibly cheaper at the time of purchase. But I felt this humor needed to be shared with others.

man that would really hurt the pocket. I'd try calling up and seeing if you can get a good deal from a rep. I paid $160 for an upgrade to Complete Care + a 1 year warranty extension. One of the best upgrades I have paid for so far as I have had a bunch of parts replaced already. ;)

Ya it might be worth a shot. I just tried a quick chat session, just now, in hopes to shine some light on why it is so costly after purchase. I clicked the icon which read "Alienware Sales Experts". I quickly got to speak with someone but they indicated I should call the parts dept., and provided me with their phone #, to inquire about this. I'd think a sales rep, even a chat sales rep, would know enough about the extended service plans to educate me a little... oh well :) Will try calling.

You can get other laptop insurance for a lot less than Dell, which includes repair / replacement.

For some reason Dell really rips people off on the extended after you purchase. I got the full 4 years of complete for like $400ish because they gave me the 4th year free. The same coverage after the fact is thousands of dollars.

This is also why I don't feel like the resellers are a good deal, they all just got the base warranty, and extending it after a purchase costs $$$$.

It's cheaper to call up and ask about a warranty extension. 3 years for my R2 with onsite is 512 dollars.
