Hey guys, I've been having some weird issues with the Witcher 2 - Just installed it, and game looks and runs great with everying on high - AA, only problem is, after about 3-4 mins of playing, the fps drops from the 40's-50's, to the 20's and drives me nuts. Only way to stop this is to minimize and close random programs, then go back in and it will be good again for another few mins. Exiting the game and restarting it also warrants a few more mins of silky-ness.

I've never had a problem with throttling on any game before unless the laptop is not plugged in. Because of this I have never used throttlestop, and I skimmed through the very long and boring post about how to use throttlestop.

I've tried a random assortment of settings, and nothing seems to work - is it because im on a 2720?

If you have a 2720, could you please post your bios/throttlestop settings so I can bump the CPU up. Thanks.

Alright, first of all, we need your specs especially what GPU you use. If it is a 580m, then there is an easy fix :)

    i wasn't expecting that...

do you have the latest drivers? A significant drop in fps is probably due to your vid card pulling back for some reason.

download gpuz and log your temps (go to sensor tab and check log to file). it will drop a text file in your documents folder. lets see what your vid card temps are while you are playing witcher 2

BTW, i play witcher 2 with no slowdowns...running catalyst 11.9's

Aach scheisse I was wrong. Throttlestop has little affect on Sandy Bridge CPU's let alone throttling in games. I would think that your GPU is throttling, possibly due to heat. Update to the newest drivers, download GPU-z, in the sensors tab, check "Continue refreshing..." and leave that open when you play a game. Report back with temps and other readings.

Ok, so its kicking off at 90c - dont know what I can do to bring temps down :/

I see that CCC for the m cards doesnt have the overdrive thing - I'm kind of hesitant to turn my fan speed up anyways because I did it with the 6970 on my desktop and now my fan is perma-stuck at 100% and it sounds like im sitting next to a jet engine that never runs out of gas

I should also add that GPUz doesnt pick up my fan speed properly as it says it is always at 30%. It's gone from the 30rpm where its at now to 400 under load (which is really slow)

No no, the fan speed readings on GPU-z are wrong. That is for desktop cards that have an independent fan. Notebook fans are controlled by the motherboard EC. Now perhaps do a repaste? Looks like you are overheating.
