Not sure if anyone else caught this, but TomsHardware did a shootout of the M17x against the Eurocom 18 inch laptop with dual 5870s. Alienware's M17x: Mobility Radeon HD 5870 CrossFire Is A Go : Better, Stronger, Faster? Despite the Eurocom having the 940xm and the M17x having the 920xm, the alienware still managed to come out on top overall. Just thought I'd throw this out there in case you missed it.
-
Yea, we talked abotu it a bit in the owners lounge, but good to get it out here for the lurkers that havn't seen it. I have both chips 940XM ES and 920XM OEM, and my 920XM will out perform my 940XM ES. I was suprised they didn't mention the RGB
-
I'm quite impressed, actually. Now I am stuck between a m15x or a m17x, all because of a review...
(replacing my desktop).
-
No brainer if you already have m11x
-
Be sure to check out the comments in that article as well.
-
I wouldn't even bother to reply to those comments simply because people who read and believe them do not deserve to have an alienware
+rep just for your patience to deal with those kind of people -

Wow. Props on the gang bang there Scook and Joker. That guy is an absolute idiot.

Sadly, that is how most people on that site think. Laptops should all be cheap have awesome battery lives and still perform like desktops or they are a waste of money
lol
Yes, me and joker educated that fool haha -

I liken the desktop versus laptop dilemma to the domestic cars versus import dilemma. No matter what factual evidence you provide on behalf of either side, the opposing side just doesn't want to hear it.
-
Haha, I signed up to thumbs up the Alienware NBR members, and Thumbs down the idiot. Also left a little comment of my own. lol
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
They have an EON 17 article (advertisement pretty much) up now as well. That site always fails so miserably when it comes to clevo rebrands.....they act like Eurocom engineers and builds the laptops themselves lol
I called them out on it this time....
And you just love showing off DR haha - although that was a sick score.....still waiting on that P20k -
Haha, yea, that I do lol. Yea I'm definately going to give 20K a go, but might have to wait till I get home. Also gotta figure out something with the PSU, and a bios hack would help with voltage.
-
haha, i thumbed up and down there too. guess there was nothing left to say after scook and joker
-
I went to Tom's and told them about how the members at NBR are able to make an M17x come alive and also told them about the wonders of ThrottleStop and how that can really help out performance of the Extreme CPUs.
So far I'm sitting at 1 thumb up.
That's pathetic. The guy before my post posted some nonsense and he is at 10 thumbs up and the guy after me posted some more nonsense and he is at 7 thumbs up. I think their thumbs up and down stuff is a little confusing and people are clicking on the wrong ones. Either that or everyone hates me over there.
A review that leaves out more than it includes is worthless and unfortunately is typical in the mainstream media these days. It's a challenge trying to find an enthusiast grade review and not just a pretty picture.
Edit: I went and put another post over at Tom's. Come on guys give me some thumbs up. -

Come on guys show unclewebb some <3 he sure deserves it

I gave you a thumb up! You were -1 when I did mine
I told you, people there are hopeless when it comes to laptops lol -

The comments are amazing... I am trying my best to not answer to these people anymore as it takes so much energy.
I am also amazed by Joker and Scook's patience... -

We are zen masters
lol -
Oh and I forgot to comment. I guess the M17X is by far the best laptop currently out there. That review just proves how good it is and they did not talk about the RGB LCD, the metal casing, the light keyboard, the warranty, etc...
-
Thumbs up to all NBR members FTW!
-
-
I am giving you a virtual thumbs up...
I just have too many accounts everywhere and I don't want to register again... -
Thanks guys. I really don't care about thumbs up. Everyone here knows what laptop is best. They're also smart enough to know that the i7 mobile Extreme CPUs when running on the M17x R2 are in a league of their own. I just had to set the record straight over on Tom's. I can't believe what passes for reviews these days. If you're going to review a product, put a little time and effort into learning about the product first. A trip to NBR would be a great place to start when you're gathering information.

I have said multiple times in the past that they should look at NBR, never happens.
-
I can't believe they had one for 3 months waiting to get some compettion for it and they couldn't even get basic facts right.
-
I find it interesting that they also chose to neuter the m17x with normal drives while they put SSD drives in the other two.
Even with the perf cap on SSD performance without doing any of the various tweaks, it still crushes HDD performance.
I.E. they stacked the deck against it from the start. -

For what it is worth, they do not choose the configurations they are sent. They simply request a sample machine and the manufacturer/reseller selects what configuration to send out. Typically though they max them out
-
Hey scook9 sorry to call you out over at toms, I quoted the wrong person.

Lol. Somehow there are always buuunch of haters in every Alienware review. They sing the overprice song all the time.
-
People just like to be asses and push people with their own opinions. Honestly if you don't have a lot of space and need a beastly machine, then this is the one for you. Its not designed for everyone.
-
Dun hv an account @TomsHW so I'm giving u a virtual thumb up! -
SillyHoney Headphone Enthusiast
Wow! After reading scook and Joker posts over there I guess Dell should send each of you an Alienware on your birthdays.
And virtual thumb up to uncleweb too.
P/S: Can't believe people mentioned Toshiba. What the heck! And $4k? Mine is shy $2,300 and it can kick the mentioned Toshiba right on the face.
NBR members are awesome!!! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I was more defending DTRs in general, but I'll take a free AW haha
-
Kudos to Joker and Scook for teaching that moron a lesson
-
Hehe I hunted up my old account info over there and thumbed up Scook, Joker, and UncleWebb. But it took awhile to figure out WHO I was thumbing up. That has to be the worst comment system ever, well not ever.
Thx all that went the distance and schooled the ignorance. Unfortunately they are ignorant for a reason, probably won't stick. -
Way to go guys, good comments on Toms, pity most wont listen.
Great Laptop, they just really became available in my country in the last few months, and they where preconfigured (see specs below), cost about $4600 if I convert it.
Got mine about two weeks ago. It is a pricy machine, but I think worth it.

Also the price can go down significantly if you can be bothered (at least) to upgrade the RAM and HDD. Not to mention quad core extreme CPU. So the only thing I'd add that Dell will rip you off (as will any other manufacturer, for that matter) if you take the upgrades from them. You can probably save more than $1k and have a decent boot SSD.
There's no mention of RGB LED screen?? lol....
Oh and it doesn't seem they used the latest drivers and VBIOS for crossfireI noticed because we just discussed in the other thread how your vantage score will go up.
Btw, scook9... <3. -
Written by Joker :
2. I don't care if it's 50", it's a low quality display. Look up it's specifications and then try to compare it to the M17x's RGB LED display. The RGB LED in the M17x bests even some of the top desktop displays because of it's >100% color gamut. You're just embarrassing yourself by trying to compare the two.
3. I said the 920/940xm can be unlocked to 3.4 GHz+ on ALL 4 CORES you noob. Turbo boost on a 740qm on all 4 cores is HALF that (1.73 GHz).
I just have to say that Joker is a legend. I couldn't stop laughing at how that guy was continuing to go on and on about the toshiba laptop that doesn't even come close to an M17x. Joker's responses are truly classic. "I don't care if its a 50 inch" HA HA HA !!!! But how true, who cares if the toshiba is 18.4, I have seen that screen in real life and it doesn't compare to the RGBLED. Not even close.
