I have an m17x r2, but I haven't gotten a backpack to transport it with yet. I rarely move my laptop around, but do you think the m17x r2 is durable enough to be moved around in a lightly padded messenger bag or is that dangerous? I've heard that the keyboard will damage the screen if it is closed and moved without some sort of cover. Is this true, or does it take an extended period of time and pressure to do damage? In the end, I just want to know if it is safe for me to transport my laptop in a lightly padded messenger bag.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

I travel with my laptop almost daily. The aluminum chassis is obviously very durable, but it isn't bulletproof. Your padded messenger bag should be fine. You NEED to get some sort of cloth between the keyboard and screen. Even if it is a washcloth. Just get something in there.

Ok, I'll use a thin wash cloth for the time being. Do you have something more suited to the task that I could purchase and use on a permanent basis?

No, not really. I went to our local arts and crafts store and had a piece of felt cloth cut to the exact dimensions as the palmrest/keyboard section. That's all I've used since I bought this machine. I had an R1 where the screen got scratched up, so my R2 has had this cloth between the screen and keyboard since I got it.

i placed 3 rubber feet on top of the LCD, one far left, one far right and one in the middle, just under the webcam. not really noticable if you dont look at it but it does create a 5-6mm gap between the LCD and base housing. that should avoid those nasty scratches.

Hey Windy Turnip. I carry mine to work everyday and so far have not had the slightest damage. As TurbodTalon said the case is durable. I hadn't thought about using a piece of cloth across the keyboard to protect the screen but I think that is a great idea.

But I would not even consider transporting it in a messenger bag. What type of transport are you talking about though? Moving it from one room to another of putting it in your luggage to fly somewhere or jumping on a train to go into the city? I compare it to insurance. How much did you pay for your computer, compared to how much for a good quality backpack and how important is your computer to you?

This has happened to my laptop I have a bunch of tiny knicks on my screen but I think my issue is from the palmrest area rather than the keyboard. I use a microfibre cloth in between now and haven't seen any new scratches develop
