The fans are never off, even when idle. It seems from searching through the forums that the heatsinks deal with the cooling when there isnt heavy load but my fans are always on. It's loud enough when idling to be heard some 30 feet away. I tried opening up the case and using compressed air on all the fans, etc but it hasnt fixed the issue.

My temperatures are about 60C according to speedfan.

    What else can I try?

You aren't going to get the fans to completely stop no matter what you do. Have you reapplied thermal paste to your CPU and GPUs? If your fans and heatsinks are completely clean, and you've applied new paste, you've done all you can do. The fans are always going to be spinning some. Mine always are, and in a similar thread I started a long time ago, others said that their fans are always running too. 30 feet away though, that might not be fans running at low speed. Could you use HWInfo32 to see what your idle temperatures are. Also, what is the ambient room temperature where your laptop resides?

My temperatures are around 60 Celsius.

Ambient room tempertures are around 21 to 26 Celsius.

I got a Zalman Cooling Pad but the computer's fans still run on full whenever I try anything 3D. The computer's fans also randomly go to max for a few seconds every thirty seconds or so. I heard there was a BIOS fix for that, but I applied the most recent BIOS on dell.com and I still have the problem.

Even enthusiast desktops (unless using $30 120mm fans everywhere and lined with sound dampening foam) make the same amount of noise "to be heard 30 feet away at idle"

Its just a fact of life when owning an enthusiast computer, laptop or desktop.

I can't tell what "noise" its making but if the fans aren't clearly maxing out at idle and they aren't rattling/grinding or anything what you have sounds about normal.

I understand what you're saying, but the fans are indeed maxing out at idle.

If I'm idling, not even at the keyboard, the fans max out for 30 seconds, then turn down for a minute. This repeats essentially perpetually. That's extremely annoying.

The fans also max out at the slightest attempt at anything that isn't just the desktop. If I play Age of Empires 1 or Caesar III, it maxes out the entire time.

I know sound is to be expected, but it shouldn't be having this much difficulty.

Watch your temps during whatever makes it speed up, I know you said 60c but I'm not sure if you're talking load or idle.. Also look at GPU temps.

If they're in check (below 80-90) your system shouldn't be freaking out and maxing the fans randomly.
