    Hey guys,

I'm having trouble with my graphics card, specifically a 6990M. The screen just went completely white one day during normal use and when I restarted it would only boot to the white screen. I had to wipe the drivers (via DriverSweeper) to get it to boot to desktop. Both GFX cards are seen as Standard VGA adapeters. So, then I tried to install the drivers, the integrated drivers work fine(Intel HD3000) but as I install the drivers for the AMD card, it instantly crashes to the white screen or reboots(before I can even hit finish on the installer). On reboot it appears as if no drivers are installed.

Running ePSA diagonstics gives no problems(it only tests the Intel card), althought the AMD card is identified in the BIOS. I've also tried multiple driver versions, but I still run into the same white screen/reboot problem. I've also tried repasting the GPU.

I'm currently running on just the Intel GPU which seems to be working fine. I've come here as a last resort. Is my GPU dead? What do you guys think I should do? My warranty period is well over(been 2.5 years with this laptop)

    hi,

sure sounds like it. I've never seen so many GPU failures in the space of a month or so - both AMD and NV! Have there been any sunspots lately

Anyhoo, just a way out there suggestion but go into the bios and disable the on-board Audio The white screen on the R3 with NV cards is a known issue.

    Edit: Typo, corrected.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

So I guess I should start looking for another card. Any recommendations? Preferably nvidia. What's the best NV GFX card I can get for the M17X R3?

I would say the 680m but research it. I have posted quite a bit about it and others have chimed in with their opinion. Have a look at my recent posts from my profile or check out the above thread from black-bean. You should also find some details of what it entails. Basically, an unlocked bios to turn off optimus. A modified driver file so it will install, and you must get the x-bracket with the card.

I would personally get a 780M as it will give you the best overall performance and can be oced quite a bit.. Its only slightly more expensive than the 680M and the extra is worth it..

I just had to check https://uk.news.yahoo.com/strong-solar-flares-week-rare-double-whammy-scientists-150003499.html

Seems it really could be, those damn neutrinos get in everything

    Hahaha

Now this is just too much for my conspiracy radar: ' Enrico Fermi develops a comprehensive theory of radioactive decays, including Pauli's hypothetical particle, which Fermi coins the neutrino.'

Fermi, the code name of the core in the failing NV cards.

Cra*, gotta get the tinfoil hat out again :D
