I keep getting this messege. A required cd/dvd device driver is missing. if you have a driver floppy disk, cd, dvd, or usb flash drive, please insert it now.
i tried every raid driver i could find on the net. i had this problem with vista 2 years ago and i solved the problem. But no luck with W7.
anyone have any idea where i can find these drivers at?

Please tell me what Windows 7 Installation DVD you are using. Is it official? Is it the dell one, a consumer one, a student/faculty dvd? Is it copied or the original?

I'm almost positive the issue will be solved by using a genuine Windows 7 installation cd.

I recently had the same issue. Once the offical windows 7 dvd boots - it launches the install program but after that it does not recognize the dvd drive. I got around it by booting from the internal drive and then switching to an external dvd drive. I was able to load Win 7 but I am still left with an internal dvd drive which does not work. (still looking for a solution)

I had the same issue but fixed it by extracting and copying the smart bay driver to a thumb drive and browsing to it when the message comes up and that took care of it!! hope this helps!!

It is occuring often with .iso W7's burned at high speed. Burning same .iso at x1 speed resolves problem. I never heard it occurs with W7 factory pressed DVD's.

I had that issue once with legal downloaded iso and after research I found it is burn speed sensitive indeed.

from where did you get the driver? I believe from dell support, but on my case are 8 options and all are firmware.

Please help, Last night I tried doing a custom install of Windows 7 to my Area 51 M17X-R1 laptop. After booting from the DVD it got stuck for an hour and a half on the "installing Windows". I shutdown the laptop and tried it again. After the second attempt, I got the blue screen saying that the PC must shutdown before serious damage is caused. Now when I start the PC, I have to select windows vista startup or rollback. I select the windows vista and everything boots up just fine.

I've had this computer since jan 09 with no serious issues. I would just like to upgrade to windows 7 64 bit from windows vista 32 bit so I can install the (8) 4x4 GB of ram I've purchased...

Please help, and thanks in advance
